Bitcoin ETF

Wat is een bitcoin-ETF? Zij vormen een relatief gemakkelijk te kopen beleggingsinstrument dat bitcoin (BTC), de oorspronkelijke cryptocurrency, bezit. Net zoals aandelen zijn exchange-traded funds gelist op beurzen, kunnen ze gedurende de dag verhandeld worden en zijn ze beschikbaar voor aankoop via reguliere effectenrekeningen. Een bitcoin-ETF werd voor het eerst voorgesteld in de VS rond 2013 door Cameron en Tyler Winklevoss, maar werd nooit goedgekeurd door de Amerikaanse Securities and Exchange Commission. Verschillende aanvragen voor deze fondsen zijn momenteel in behandeling bij de SEC per januari 2024, van bedrijven waaronder BlackRock, Grayscale, Fidelity, Galaxy/Invesco en Franklin Templeton. Indien goedgekeurd, zouden crypto-ETF’s de basis van mensen die kunnen investeren in digitale activa aanzienlijk kunnen verbreden. Er zijn reeds bitcoin futures-ETF’s beschikbaar in de VS gedurende meerdere jaren, maar de nieuwste reeks voorgestelde producten, technisch bekend als spot bitcoin-ETF’s, zijn een efficiënter en gewilder product.
