Umut Kundukan

Umut Kundukan is the Founder and CEO of BitInPeace, a non-custodial crypto inheritance platform for Bitcoin and Ethereum self-custodians. With 20 years of experience in software engineering, he has led and delivered large-scale projects across industries such as payments, telecommunications, and financial technology.

Throughout his career, Umut has worked as a Technical Leader and Principal Engineer in regulated environments where reliability, scalability, and security were critical. He applied his expertise to building secure payment platforms, real-time transaction processing systems, and order management solutions for major European enterprises, leading teams and projects that operated under strict compliance and performance requirements.

The idea for BitInPeace came from recognizing a personal and widespread challenge in crypto: what happens to self-custodied assets when their holders pass away. Traditional inheritance frameworks do not adequately address the unique nature of digital assets, leaving wealth at risk of being lost forever. Motivated by this gap, Umut set out to create a platform that allows individuals to plan secure, inactivity-triggered transfers of their Bitcoin and Ethereum. His focus is on enabling continuity of digital wealth without exposing private keys or depending on custodians.

Under his leadership, BitInPeace has undergone extensive technical testing and has been validated through an AWS Well-Architected review. The platform is now evolving beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum to also address inheritance needs for DeFi positions and real-world assets, reflecting Umut’s broader vision of safeguarding digital legacies in a rapidly changing financial landscape.

Beyond his technical and entrepreneurial work, Umut is deeply interested in bridging the gap between traditional finance and decentralized systems. He believes that long-term adoption of crypto will depend not only on usability and security during one’s lifetime but also on providing responsible ways to ensure continuity across generations
