Charmain of Board of Directors Semler Scientific

Eric Semler Bio

Eric Semler is an investor and executive who has served as chairperson of the board of directors at Semler Scientific (Nasdaq: SMLR) since April 2023 and became the company’s executive chairman in June 2025. He is best known in crypto-related market coverage for overseeing Semler Scientific’s adoption of a Bitcoin treasury strategy and for positioning BTC as a long-term reserve asset for a non-crypto operating business.

Background

Semler has been described in public company filings as a public and private markets investor focused on technology and media. He founded TCS Capital Management in 2001 and later converted it into a family office in 2017. Semler’s earlier career included work as a journalist, including at The New York Times. He earned a B.A. from Dartmouth College and both a J.D. and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.

Bitcoin Treasury Strategy at Semler Scientific

In May 2024, Semler Scientific disclosed that its board adopted Bitcoin as its primary treasury reserve asset and announced an initial purchase of 581 BTC for an aggregate $40 million, inclusive of fees and expenses. CryptoSlate covered the announcement and market response in Semler Scientific embraces Bitcoin treasury strategy.

The company continued buying Bitcoin after the initial allocation. Notable Developments

In September 2025, CryptoSlate reported that Strive agreed to acquire Semler Scientific in an all-stock transaction and that Semler Scientific Executive Chairman Eric Semler would join the combined board. See Strive’s all-stock merger with Semler Scientific.

Risks and Considerations

Bitcoin treasury strategies can introduce material balance-sheet volatility and may shift investor focus from operating performance to treasury exposure. If additional BTC accumulation depends on capital markets activity, shareholder dilution and financing conditions can become key constraints. Public companies pursuing BTC strategies also face ongoing disclosure, accounting, and governance considerations, particularly during periods of sharp price swings.
