This Crypto.com review reveals everything needed to make an informed decision. The tier-one exchange, which is regulated in multiple U.S. and international markets, offers a wide range of digital asset products, including spot trading, perpetual futures, and DeFi savings accounts.

We tested the Crypto.com desktop platform and mobile app to provide accurate and impartial findings. Learn more about the Crypto.com user experience, supported cryptocurrencies, investment fees, and security controls.

Crypto.com Pros and Cons

Crypto.com has several strengths and weaknesses that traders must consider before proceeding. Its biggest advantage is its strict regulatory structure, which includes licenses in most U.S. states, as well as more than a dozen countries in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Robust safety controls include audited proof of reserves, multi-factor authentication, and cold storage systems. The exchange offers a huge range of products, from spot trading and margin accounts to derivatives like futures and options.

The key drawback is fees. Crypto.com charges much higher trading commissions compared to the industry average, especially for entry-level traders who prefer market orders and small monthly volumes. Crypto.com offers the lowest fees and highest DeFi APYs when users hold its native token, CRO, yet this rarely appeals to investors. Desktop users may be disappointed to learn that some features, including credit card purchases, are available only on the Crypto.com app.

Let’s summarize the pros and cons from our Crypto.com review.

Pros

  • Heavily regulated with multiple U.S. and international licenses
  • Strong security features, certification, and audited asset reserves
  • Supports over 400 coins and tokens
  • Markets include spot and margin trading, futures, perpetuals, and options
  • Local bank deposits (e.g., ACH) are fee-free
  • Trusted by over 140 million crypto investors

Cons

  • Higher trading commissions than the industry average
  • Some features are only available on the mobile app
  • Traders from some countries face product restrictions
  • All customers must complete KYC before they trade
  • Users need CRO tokens to reduce fees and maximize DeFi yields

Is Crypto.com Safe?

Extensive research shows that Crypto.com is one of the best crypto exchanges for safety. The platform has a strong licensing framework, so unlike many of its competitors, Crypto.com legally operates in all supported markets. It also offers institutional-grade security features to protect account holder balances and audited proof of reserves for enhanced transparency.

In this section of our Crypto.com review, we reveal the exchange’s security controls in more detail.

Regulation and Licensing

Crypto.com operates in over 90 jurisdictions. The company holds various licenses throughout the U.S., allowing it to accept clients from all states except New York. It’s also one of the few derivative platforms to hold a Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) license, allowing U.S. retail clients to access perpetuals and options in a safe and regulated environment.

In Europe, Crypto.com is licensed in the broader European Economic Area, as well as individual countries like the UK, Ireland, Italy, and Cyprus. The exchange is regulated in other global regions, including Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and South America.

The exchange's strict regulatory structure ensures a safe and legitimate trading experience for all registered users. This does, however, mean that all Crypto.com traders must complete know-your-customer (KYC) procedures when they register. The process demands personal information and a government-issued ID to ensure regulatory compliance.

Certifications

Crypto.com stands out for its industry-leading certification, which further solidifies its status as a trusted exchange. It holds global certification for data protection and security standards, including the highly sought-after ISO 22301:2019, ISO/IEC 27701:2019, and ISO/IEC 27001:2022.

It also holds SOC 2 Type II and Tier 4 NIST certifications, showing that Crypto.com has institutionally compliant cybersecurity systems in place.

Proof of Reserves

Crypto.com joins other tier-one exchanges by offering audited proof of reserves. It leverages the Merkle Tree system, which allows anyone to verify that the exchange's reserves cover their platform-held balances.

Crypto.com proof of reserves

The exchange also releases detailed reports regarding reserve ratios for each major digital asset. The most recent report shows holdings between 101% and 106% in the best cryptocurrencies for liquidity, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, and USDC.

Security Measures

Crypto.com keeps the majority of client cryptocurrencies in cold storage wallets to protect against remote hacking attempts. Like most exchanges, it holds a small percentage of assets in hot wallets for exchange liquidity and account withdrawals.

Users have a wide range of account security tools to prevent unauthorized access, including passwords, biometrics, and two- and multi-factor authentication. Traders can activate address whitelisting, which ensures withdrawals are only approved when they're sent to verified wallet addresses.

Has Crypto.com Ever Been Hacked?

Despite its world-renowned regulatory and security safeguards, Crypto.com was hacked in 2022.

According to reports, hackers breached the platform’s security systems and bypassed mandatory two-factor authentication checks. This enabled hackers to withdraw client balances worth approximately $34 million.

The hack shows that no exchange systems are 100% secure, yet the broader crypto community praised Crypto.com for its response.

First, customers did not lose any funds, as Crypto.com reimbursed all impacted accounts. The exchange also implemented new and enhanced security protections, including revamped multi-factor authentication, mandatory whitelisting with a 24-hour grace period for new addresses, and third-party security auditing and stress testing.

Crypto.com Supported Coins and Trading Pairs

Crypto.com lists over 400 cryptocurrencies, making it a popular option for building diversified portfolios and accessing a wide range of market narratives. To track the next additions, explore our guide on upcoming Crypto.com listings for new coin opportunities.

The top cryptocurrencies by market capitalization are available, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB, Stellar, and Cardano. Notable exceptions include UNUS SED LEO, Tron, and Monero.

Platform users may trade the best meme coins, too. Popular markets include Shiba Inu, Bonk, Pepe, SPX6900, and Floki. Meme coin traders might feel disappointed by the lack of support for Non-Playable Coin, cat in a dog's world, and Baby Doge Coin, although it's simply not possible to list every meme token.

Crypto.com review supported coins

Our Crypto.com review discovered a diverse selection of top artificial intelligence (AI) coins, too. Examples include Render Token, bittensor, NEAR Protocol, and Internet Computer. AI Agent cryptocurrencies are also extensive, from the Artificial Superintelligence Alliance and Virtual protocol to ai16z and Freysa.

In terms of trading pairs, Crypto.com offers crypto-to-fiat and crypto-cross markets. For localized market exposure, users can trade leading cryptocurrencies against US dollars and euros. Stablecoin-centric pairs are also available, such as BTC/USDT and XRP/USDT.

There are various ways to invest in and trade digital assets on the Crypto.com platform, which we explore in the next section of this review.

Crypto.com Trading and Investment

Crypto.com offers traditional crypto investments with fiat money or spot trading orders. More experienced users may prefer derivative markets like futures and options, which invite sophisticated strategies and high-leverage trading.

Let’s take a closer look at the most popular Crypto.com markets.

Instant Buy

The easiest way to purchase cryptocurrencies is via the Instant Buy feature. Available exclusively on the Crypto.com app for iOS and Android, the feature allows users to buy digital assets instantly with local payment methods.

Options include debit/credit cards from Visa and MasterCard, as well as bank transfers via ACH, SEPA, NPP, FPS, and other banking methods.

Instant Buy reflects brokerage services rather than conventional crypto trading, as users buy assets directly from Crypto.com reserves.

Spot and Margin Trading

Most Crypto.com users trade via the spot trading exchange, which ensures buy and sell orders are settled “on the spot”. The exchange offers the largest range of cryptocurrencies and pairs, alongside analysis tools like customized pricing charts and technical indicators. Various order types are available, including limits, markets, take profits, stop losses, and one-cancels-the-other (OCO).

Eligible traders may also access margin trading facilities on the spot exchange. This tool enables users to buy cryptocurrencies with leverage, which means they borrow funds from the exchange to amplify their position size. The minimum margin requirement is 20%, which converts to 5x leverage.

Crypto.com margin trading

Only a select number of large-cap assets are supported, and each has maximum collateral limits. Note that margin trading is different from leveraged perpetuals, insofar as users receive real cryptocurrencies instead of trading derivative contracts. However, users can't withdraw those cryptocurrencies from the Crypto.com account.

Futures

Crypto.com offers perpetual futures to users in select countries. Dozens of markets are available, including large-caps like Ethereum and Polkadot, as well as volatile meme coins such as Floki, Pepe, and Degen.

In addition to leverage, perpetuals support long and short trading. Leverage limits vary depending on the market. The maximum leverage is 50x on high-liquid pairs, so a $100 margin position offers $5,000 in market exposure.

Crypto.com also supports delivery futures for Bitcoin and Ethereum. These derivative products offer various contract expiration dates, including daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly.

Options

U.S. clients can access strike options on the Crypto.com platform. These markets are regulated by the CFTC, and they support 18 cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Solana, and Floki.

Traders do not purchase call or put contracts like in traditional options trading, as Crypto.com offers an "Up" and "Down" system. These market choices represent long and short trading, respectively, and timeframes range from five minutes to one week. Contract values are $10, and traders can cash out early to lock in gains or cut losses. Importantly, users can never lose more than they put into their strike options positions.

Alongside digital assets, the strike options department also supports forex trading. Pairs include EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD, and USD/JPY. Similar to futures, strike options invite leverage.

Swaps

While the main Crypto.com exchange supports about 400 cryptocurrencies, users access over 10,000 tokens via the on-chain feature.

As trades are made on-chain, users require the Crypto.com wallet, which is separate from the centralized platform. It comes as a mobile app or browser extension, and users store and trade cryptocurrencies via non-custodial keys.

However, the no-chain swap tool works like any other wallet that connects with decentralized exchanges (DEXs) like Uniswap and PancakeSwap. This means Crypto.com provides aggregation services rather than a proprietary DEX.

Crypto Baskets

The Crypto.com app offers crypto baskets, which let users build diversified portfolios in one click. The platform offers 24 pre-built baskets, and each has varying strategies and risk spectrums.

First-time investors preferring to keep things simple may choose the BTC-ETH Duo basket, which contains weighted amounts of Bitcoin and Ethereum. The Meme basket offers higher risk-reward opportunities and contains tokens like Shiba Inu, Bonk, dogwifhat, and Pepe.

Crypto.com baskets

Users may also build their own baskets based on their investment goals and risk tolerance. They can use the auto-rebalancing tool to ensure their basket automatically adjusts based on real-time performance. Another diversification tool is recurring buy, where users deploy dollar-cost average strategies for their favorite digital assets.

Crypto baskets, like many Crypto.com features, are available on the iOS and Android apps only.

Crypto.com Staking and Rewards

Crypto.com provides various ways to generate passive rewards on idle portfolio balances, with both centralized finance (CeFi) and DeFi options available.

Crypto Earn (CeFi)

Beginners may like the CeFi method for its simplicity, as these products operate like traditional savings accounts. Known as “Crypto Earn”, users deposit one of 21 cryptocurrencies into their savings account to earn interest payments, paid in the same coin or token. The APY varies depending on the asset, amount, lock-up term, and whether users hold Crypto.com's native token, CRO.

Bitcoin deposits, for instance, yield 5% APYs when users stake $40,000 worth of CRO and lock their coins for three months. Without CRO and lock-up restrictions, the APY reduces to just 0.25%. Crypto.com offers a user-friendly calculator that shows APYs based on the user's parameters.

As a CeFi solution, remember that Crypto.com is responsible for keeping your digital assets safe. If you want full control of your cryptocurrencies without trusting third-party custodians, consider the DeFi staking option.

Staking (DeFi)

Crypto.com lets investors stake their assets on the blockchain via approved validators. Users can unstake at any time, and APYs depend on the proof-of-stake token.

Those staking Cardano, Ethereum, and Solana earn 1.8%, 2.95%, and 5.38% respectively, although these APYs are variable and subject to change. The best-paying staking cryptocurrencies are Kusama and Cosmos, which pay 10.42% and 13.74%.

The provided interest rates do not include validator fees. These fees are subtracted from the rewards when users unstake.

Crypto.com Credit Card Review

U.S. clients may be eligible for the Crypto.com card. Issued by Visa, it functions as a real credit card with conventional background checks, which determine eligibility, credit limits, and interest rates.

The credit card supports US dollar purchases online and in-store, and rewards depend on the tier. The entry-level tier, Midnight, does not require CRO staking, and it offers 1.5% cashback, paid in CRO. The highest tier, Obsidian, offers 6.5% purchase rewards, yet requires $500,000 in staked CRO.

Our Crypto.com Visa Card review found that additional perks include travel benefits, 24/7 concierge services, and purchase protections. There are no annual fees, and customers can pay monthly balances via the Crypto.com app.

Crypto NFTs

The platform offers a built-in NFT marketplace that features popular collections from Aston Martin F1, Lega Serie A, LA Kings, and Philadelphia 76ers. The most traded NFTs include Moonbirds, Pudgy Penguins, and Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Crypto.com NFT marketplace

The marketplace provides user-centric filters to help find suitable NFT collections, including price, category, and ecosystem. Supported NFT standards include Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and Cronos.

Crypto.com Onchain Wallet

Crypto.com Onchain is a non-custodial wallet that ensures users control and manage their private keys. Available as an iOS/Android app and Chrome extension, the wallet is free, private, and user-friendly.

There are no country restrictions or account opening requirements, as the wallet operates independently from the Crypto.com exchange. Security features include biometrics and two-factor authentication, as well as encrypted keys and backup passphrases.

The application and extension support the most popular crypto networks like Bitcoin, Solana, Dogecoin, and XRP, alongside real-time portfolio statistics and market prices. Key features include dApp connectivity, staking tools, and instant token swaps.

Crypto.com Payment Methods

Our Crypto.com review found that users can deposit and withdraw funds with various payment types and currencies. Here are the most popular Crypto.com payment methods.

Fiat Wallet

As a regulated exchange, Crypto.com directly accepts fiat deposits. Users may deposit major currencies like USD, GBP, and AUD via bank transfer. Local banking methods offer a fee-free and fast payment experience, with popular networks including ACH (U.S.), Faster Payments (UK), and New Payments Platform (Australia).

Once investors fund their fiat wallet, they manually trade the money for cryptocurrencies using pairs like BTC/USD and ETH/GBP.

Instant Methods to Buy Crypto

The Crypto.com app supports instant payment methods too, including Visa, MasterCard, and Google/Apple Pay. This option lets users purchase digital assets directly from Crypto.com, so there is no requirement to use the spot exchange.

Crypto Payments

Like most crypto exchanges, Crypto.com supports wallet-to-wallet payments.

The app generates a unique wallet address for the user’s selected coin or token. They then transfer the assets to that address, and Crypto.com automatically credits their account after a minimum number of block confirmations.

Withdrawals

Crypto.com users can withdraw fiat and cryptocurrencies from their accounts. Fiat withdrawals include bank transfers and e-wallets, and fees vary depending on the method and currency.

Digital asset withdrawals transfer to the user’s wallet, although for added security, the platform allows whitelisted wallet addresses only. Otherwise, users must wait 24 hours after adding a new address.

Crypto.com Fees

Crypto.com fees vary depending on the product, as well as individual metrics like trading volume, order types, and whether the user holds CRO.

Spot trading fees start at 0.5% per slide. This is expensive compared to low-fee crypto exchanges like MEXC and KCEX, which offer commission-free trading. The commission is reduced to 0.25% when placing limit orders, and 0% when users also hold CRO. Further discounts apply as trading volumes increase; however, users require at least $2.5 million in 30-day volume to reach the second account tier.

Derivative fees, including perpetual futures and options, are lower than the spot trading exchange, although commissions apply to the total leveraged order rather than the margin stake. These fees range from 0% to 0.04% depending on the same metric, including volume and CRO balances.

Regarding payments, most local fiat transfers are free of charge, including ACH, Faster Payments, and SEPA. The fee-free structure applies to deposits and withdrawals.

The Instant Buy feature, which supports debit/credit card purchases, charges a variable fee that is shown only when users set up an order. Crypto.com explains that several factors determine fees, including market conditions and available liquidity. That said, new customers from select countries receive fee-free debit/credit card payments for the first seven days after registering.

While crypto deposits are free, the exchange charges withdrawal fees in the same digital asset. These charges are often expensive, with Bitcoin withdrawals incurring 0.0004 BTC (about $47), which is much higher than the actual blockchain mining fee.

Is Crypto.com User-Friendly?

Crypto.com positions itself as a comprehensive crypto ecosystem catering to all trading profiles, from complete beginners to institutional clients with large-scale trading demands.

We tested all available device types and operating systems, and found the iOS and Android apps target casual investors with limited experience. The mobile apps are smooth and simple to navigate, and they enable users to easily buy and sell cryptocurrencies with local money.

Crypto.com deposit funds

Users select their preferred crypto, currency, and payment method, and finalize the purchase accordingly. Those digital assets are deposited into the user’s account, which they can keep there and withdraw to a private wallet.

Seasoned traders, particularly those trading complex derivative products like leveraged perpetuals and delivery futures, prefer the desktop platform. The browser-based platform offers an extensive selection of tools that help traders analyze crypto prices in real-time. This includes technical indicators, drawing tools, and candlestick timeframes from one minute to one month.

Trade Dogecoin on Crypto.com

Overall, beginners might face a learning curve when using the spot, margin, and derivative platforms, and the sheer number of products and services could be overwhelming for some.

Where Is Crypto.com Available?

Crypto.com operates in over 90 countries, including all U.S. states except New York. The exchange supports most European, Asian, and South American countries, too. Most prohibited jurisdictions are in the African region. Crypto.com publishes restricted countries on its website, so users are advised to check eligibility before getting started.

Crypto.com Customer Support?

Account holders get 24/7 customer service via the Crypto.com app. Users speak with a real agent via live chat, although waiting times vary considerably depending on demand. Some users experience connection times of several minutes, while others wait on hold for multiple hours.

Registered users can also request support via [email protected]. The platform does not offer telephone support.

Where Can Crypto.com Improve?

According to our Crypto.com review, fees are one of the main areas where the exchange can improve. Most traders pay the entry-level commission of 0.5% per slide, which is five times higher than the 0.1% industry average. Although lower fees apply to trading higher amounts, this requires monthly volumes of at least $2.5 million.

Instant Buy fees are also high, and while they vary depending on several factors, most users report paying around 3-4%.

Another drawback is the constant push for users holding CRO, the exchange’s proprietary token. The Crypto Earn feature, for instance, requires at least $40,000 in CRO holdings to get the highest APYs. Similarly, the Crypto.com Credit Card offers a top-tier reward structure of 6%, yet users need $500,000 worth of the token.

We also found that some features, including Instant Buy and crypto baskets, are available exclusively on the mobile app. This is a disadvantage to investors who prefer to use their desktop device.

There is also product overlapping depending on the trader’s location, as some services are available in select countries only. Although these jurisdictional restrictions are due to regulatory compliance, users are often confused about what’s available in their location.
