Astar Network was founded in 2019 by Sota Watanabe, a recognized blockchain innovator featured in Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia (2022). Initially launched as Plasm Network, it rebranded to Astar in 2021 and became a Polkadot parachain in January 2022. The network is developed by Stake Technologies, headquartered in Singapore with operations in Japan. Sota Watanabe also serves as CEO of Stake Technologies.
