As per the website, the launch of the project and the website was on January 15th, 2019. The publishing of Mimblewimble whitepapers by a pseudonymous developer, Ignotus Peverell, was in 2016. The same developer was responsible for working on a minimal implementation protocol named GRIN. The pseudonym Ignotus Peverell is a character in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. The character is famous for receiving the cloak of invisibility from death and hence is suitable for the platform's vision. GRIN came into the picture with many more developers joining in with pseudonyms from the Harry Potter book. So, GRIN belongs to a community of developers and contributors who intend to develop a private and lightweight blockchain.
