UK residents with a verified Coinbase account can access US stock trading through CB Payments Ltd (CBPL), which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN: 1045733). To get started, you'll need to complete a short stocks onboarding flow directly within the Coinbase app. No professional investor status is required.

Once onboarded, you can trade leading US stocks alongside your crypto — all in one FCA-regulated account, from as little as £1.

CB Payments Ltd provides access to a wide range of US-listed stocks — including major names like AAPL, TSLA, NVDA, AMZN, GOOG and many more. Approximately 3,800 stocks are available at launch, with the list expanding on an ongoing basis.

Please note: ETFs and funds are not currently available to UK users.

What order types can I use?

Coinbase supports both market orders and limit orders for UK stock trading:

• Market order: buy or sell at the best available current price.

• Limit order: set your own price target — your order will only execute if the market reaches that level. Note: only whole-share limit orders are supported.

Yes. Coinbase supports fractional shares for eligible stocks, allowing you to invest from as little as £1 — so you don't need to buy a whole share to get started.

Important: Fractional trading is only available during normal US trading hours (approximately 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM ET, Monday to Friday). UK time : 2:30 PM – 9:00 PM PM BST Mon–Fri.

Outside of those hours — including during our extended 24/5 trading window — only whole shares can be traded.

CB Payments does not charge a commission on stock trades.

However, other fees may apply:

• FX conversion: US stocks are denominated in USD. If you fund your trades with GBP, a currency conversion will apply. Exchange rate fluctuations will impact the amount of stock you receive when buying with GBP.

• USDC funding: You can also fund stock trades directly with USDC from your Coinbase balance, which avoids GBP-to-USD conversion.

• Other fees: In limited circumstances, third-party fees may apply (for example, for certain corporate actions or non-standard services).

One of Coinbase's key differentiators in the UK is 24/5 access — you can trade eligible US stocks 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. No major UK broker or crypto-native exchange currently offers this.

What does "24/5" mean in practice?

• Standard US trading hours (approx. 9:30 AM – 4:00 PM ET, Mon–Fri): Full order types available, including fractional shares.

• Extended / out-of-hours trading: Available 24/5 for eligible stocks. Full shares only — fractional trading is not available outside standard hours.

• Weekends: Markets are closed; no trading is available.
  
  

Is out-of-hours trading riskier?

Yes. Trading outside of normal US market hours carries increased risk due to lower liquidity and wider bid-ask spreads. Prices can be more volatile and less representative of the stock's fair value.

Most Coinbase stock trades settle on a T+1 cycle — one business day after your trade date. This is because trades execute on US markets through Coinbase Capital Markets Inc and are cleared and settled by Apex Clearing Corporation, a third-party US custodian.

What does settlement mean?

Settlement is the process of exchanging the stocks you bought or sold for the corresponding cash in your account. Until a trade settles, the proceeds may not be immediately available.

A note for UK customers

When you sell stocks, proceeds are received in USDC to your Coinbase balance. If you prefer GBP, you can convert USDC to GBP from within the app.

Your stock trading account is provided by CB Payments Ltd (CBPL), which acts as arranger of your trades. CBPL is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN: 1045733).

Orders are routed to Coinbase Capital Markets Inc, a US FINRA-registered broker-dealer. Execution, clearing, and custody of all securities are provided by Apex Clearing Corporation, a third-party US custodian.

Is my account covered by the FSCS?

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) does not cover investment losses resulting from poor performance. However, your relationship with CBPL as an FCA-regulated firm means you benefit from the FCA's conduct of business protections as a retail client — including the right to complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) where applicable.

Is there a Stocks & Shares ISA?

A Stocks & Shares ISA is not available at launch. Stock trading on Coinbase is currently offered through a standard (non-ISA) account. We'll keep you updated on any future changes.
