About Tagger

Tagger is a decentralised AI data infrastructure protocol that introduces a new model for collecting, verifying, and monetising AI training data. TAG is the native token that powers this ecosystem, serving as a work reward, transaction fee, and governance asset. Through smart contract automation, AI-assisted annotation, and community verification, Tagger builds a transparent and scalable foundation for AI development.

Tagger is a decentralised, full-stack AI data infrastructure protocol that merges blockchain-based cryptographic standards with AI-centric data pipelines. The platform is designed to address the structural limitations of traditional AI data ecosystems—specifically fragmented data access, non-standardised verification, and the high cost of professional annotation—by introducing a global data authentication protocol based on smart contracts, NFTs, and decentralised identity verification.

The Tagger protocol supports secure and decentralised cross-border data collection, labelling, ownership verification, and trading. At its core, Tagger proposes a new AI data infrastructure paradigm it terms DeInfra, enabled through permissionless collaboration and AI co-pilot tooling. The design leverages the DePIN (Decentralised Physical Infrastructure Networks) model, enabling transparent, auditable, and tamper-resistant data provenance.

  • Data Authentication Protocol: Ensures dataset ownership via NFT-based digital rights certificates, backed by smart contracts and cryptographic verification.
  • DePIN-Powered Infrastructure: Utilises decentralised contributors to populate and curate datasets, enabling scalability and diversity of data sources.
  • AI Co-Pilot Annotation Tool: A real-time assistant powered by deep learning, designed to enable both novice and experienced users to perform industry-grade data labelling tasks.
  • Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) Verification: Incorporates RLHF techniques, voting-based consensus mechanisms, and hierarchical label auditing.
  • Decentralised Data Marketplace: Enables secure trade, lease, and authorisation of datasets with on-chain visibility and privacy-preserving controls.
  • Smart Contract Automation: Every transaction, task allocation, reward distribution, and ownership claim is handled through verifiable smart contracts.

The TAG token is the native utility token of the Tagger protocol, serving operational, economic, and governance functions within the ecosystem.

  • Task Incentives: TAG is earned by data workers contributing to data collection, labelling, cleaning, and verification.
  • Access and Utility: Clients and data users spend TAG to create and manage tasks, acquire data rights, and access AI services.
  • Governance: TAG holders can vote on protocol upgrades, fee structures, and governance proposals.
  • Transaction Medium: All payments, including those for dataset rental, annotation service listings, and marketplace handling, are conducted using TAG.
  • Proof-of-Human-Work (PoHW): The issuance of TAG is based on verifiable human effort through a system that records and evaluates contributions.

Tagger was founded by Trevor Xu, an engineer with experience in decentralised systems and education technology.

Key Features and Technical Innovations

The AI annotation copilot supports data workers through intelligent labelling suggestions and real-time quality control. Using Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), human validators confirm or reject AI-generated labels, creating a loop where human judgement dynamically refines model behaviour. Disagreements trigger a voting mechanism across multiple participants to reduce bias.

For edge cases and high-risk inputs, Tagger implements a multi-tiered verification architecture. Data flagged as ambiguous or inconsistent is routed to domain experts for final arbitration. This stratified design balances scalability with precision.

Each dataset and annotation file is hashed and indexed into NFT-formatted certificates. This mechanism grants ownership without compromising data privacy. Access permissions are encoded in smart contracts, enabling dataset sharing, licensing, and revocation without off-chain intermediaries.

Data collection is decentralised through a global participant base, who contribute structured and unstructured data via standardised tasks. Data is validated through cryptographic means and an automated cleansing pipeline. This system eliminates central data brokers and allows geographically distributed and real-time sourcing.

Tagger includes a permissionless marketplace supporting:

  • Sale and rental of data
  • Non-transferable authorisation licences
  • Usage audits and transparent transaction history

Every interaction is logged on-chain, ensuring accountability and traceability.
