About Gnosis
Gnosis (GNO) is a decentralised platform for prediction markets and DeFi, with GNO tokens used for governance, staking, and incentivisation. It was created by Martin Köppelmann and Stefan George in 2017.
Gnosis (GNO) is a cryptocurrency and a platform focused on creating decentralised infrastructure for the Ethereum ecosystem. Initially launched as a project under ConsenSys in 2015, Gnosis became independent in 2017. Gnosis aims to build open applications and infrastructure, primarily in the realm of decentralised finance (DeFi) and prediction markets. The GNO token serves multiple roles, including governance, staking, and participating in the Gnosis ecosystem’s prediction markets and decentralised applications.
Gnosis (GNO) tokens are utilised within the Gnosis ecosystem for several purposes:
- Governance: GNO holders can participate in the governance of the platform via GnosisDAO, voting on key proposals and decisions that shape the future of the project.
- Staking: GNO tokens can be staked to support the security and operations of the Gnosis Chain, a sidechain of Ethereum.
- Incentivisation: The tokens are used to incentivise participation in the platform's prediction markets and other decentralised applications incubated by Gnosis.
Gnosis was created by Martin Köppelmann and Stefan George, with the project initially being part of ConsenSys Inc. Martin Köppelmann serves as the CEO and co-founder, while Stefan George is the CTO and co-founder. Dr. Friederike Ernst is the COO of Gnosis. The project gained independence in 2017 after securing funding and launched its native GNO token in April of that year.
