L'hacker, che potrebbe essere un individuo o un piccolo gruppo, ha rivendicato la responsabilità di un exploit nel progetto assicurativo Finanza decentralizzata (DeFi), ingannando il protocollo e coniando 40 quintilioni di token COVER. L'hacker ha incassato i token in altre criptovalute tra cui ether, DAI e WBTC, ma in seguito ha datotutti i fondi tornano al protocollo.
"I 4350 ETH restituiti dall'attaccante saranno gestiti anche tramite uno snapshot ai possessori di token LP. Stiamo ancora indagando", secondo l'account Twitter del progetto che esorta i suoi utenti a non acquistare alcun token COVER ora.

Il team di sviluppo dietro Cover Protocol, che di recentefusa con Yearn Finanza, sta ancora indagando su come esattamente l'hacker abbia sfruttato il suo sistema. Sorawit Suriyakarn, responsabile Tecnologie presso Band Protocol, ha affermato che l'attacco sembra essere correlato a un bug nello smart contract, in cui la memoria e l'archiviazione sono state utilizzate in modo errato.
Il prezzo del token COVER ha avuto un andamento vertiginoso nell'ultimo giorno, precipitando di oltre il 75% a 177 $ alla notizia dell'hacking, prima di risalire parzialmente a oltre 240 $ dopo che l'hacker ha annunciato di aver restituito i fondi.
