Sam Bankman-Fried

Sam Bankman-Fried, autrefois une figure centrale de l’industrie de la cryptomonnaie, a été reconnu coupable en novembre 2023 de fraude et de complot pour avoir détourné des milliards de dollars appartenant aux clients de sa plateforme d’échange de cryptomonnaies FTX, en transférant ces fonds vers Alameda Research, son fonds spéculatif. FTX était l'une des plus grandes plateformes d’échange de cryptomonnaies avant sa chute, un acteur majeur dans le trading de dérivés, notamment les contrats à terme perpétuels. La chute de l’entreprise a été provoquée par un Exclusivité CoinDesk en novembre 2022 montrant que le bilan d'Alameda était mystérieusement rempli du token FTT émis par FTX – remettant en question la stabilité financière tant d'Alameda que de FTX. La société basée aux Bahamas a déposé le bilan neuf jours après l'histoire. Avant sa chute, SBF (comme le surnomme couramment l'ancien milliardaire) était une figure de proue de la cryptomonnaie, défendant la régulation du secteur aux États-Unis. Il était un important donateur politique et le visage public de l'altruisme efficace, un mouvement axé sur la maximisation des bienfaits de la philanthropie. SBF était arrêté en décembre 2022, et son la caution a été révoquée en raison de soupçons d'entrave à la justice. Son essai a commencé en octobre 2023, et il a été condamné le 2 novembre 2023, un an jour pour jour après l’article de CoinDesk qui a provoqué l’effondrement de son empire cryptographique.
