A Universal Basic Income (UBI) is a blockchain technology that functions on the Ethereum platform using the proof-of-humanity algorithm. The platform claims to be the first application built on the proof-of-humanity registry, a tool designed by Kleros to protect against Sybil attacks. The proof-of-humanity mechanism aims to combine social verification with video submissions to create a Sybil-proof list of humans. In a Sybil attack, one person creates multiple user accounts, nodes, or computers to try and take over an online system.

All successfully registered profiles in the proof-of-humanity registry accrue UBI tokens. The user who registers as a human on proof of humanity can begin accruing UBI by clicking the "Start accruing UBI" button on their profile page. Anyone can see how many UBI tokens they have received on any proof-of-humanity profile entry. Thus, proof of humanity seeks to allow various uses like credit scoring, insurance, funding, and human DAOs.UBI is also helpful in delivering a periodic payment to all members of the system.
