The Crypto Price Index is an ecosystem that seeks to provide broad exposure of the cryptocurrency market to users through its CPIx dETPs (decentralized exchange-traded portfolios). CPIx tokens have a diversified range of assets for token holders across the cryptocurrency market. As per its whitepaper, the CPIx tokens are launched via Ethereum'sblockchain technology to expand peer-to-peer usability and use technical architecture to track a group of assets for all the CPIx tokens minted. Minting uses the proof-of-stake mechanism to create new coins for circulation for trading. The CPIx token aims to serve as a cryptographic peg in the cryptocurrency market and become a reference against volatility. These tokens are backed by assets held in an escrowed smart contract. 

CPIx tokens are created using smart contract technology that lets the platform use wrapped tokens to track the value of external crypto assets. Wrapped tokens are cryptocurrencies pegged to the value of original crypto or assets to work on the DeFi system. The 'X' in CPIx denotes a variable - the number of assets that form the underlying investment for the token. 

CPI coin is the governance token and core unit of the Crypto Price Index ecosystem. This token seeks to give its governance powers to its token holders. The token holders vote on the assets that should be included in the CPIx asset list and are allowed to reward and penalize users of the CPI platform. The CPI holders are motivated to engage in the governance of the ecosystem through coin burning.

The CPIx token is the currency token of the ecosystem that is used for vendor payments and works as balancer pool tokens that represent a transparent pool of underlying assets which make up the product specifically for the CPIx token.

The CPI project was founded by Herbert Law (CEO) and cofounded by Scotty Crandlemire. The maximum total supply of the CPI token was 600 million CPI.
