SANA, or Storage Area Network Anywhere, is a decentralized storage and communication system for various blockchain applications. SANA uses peer-to-peer network nodes to provide data storage and transmission service. SANA is a hard-fork of the Swarm network. Swarm is a decentralized storage and communication system on the Ethereum network.

The whitepaper suggests that Swarm has many shortcomings. The supply-and-demand aspect of the Swarm network hurts the incentive layers. The excessive token trade on the network also demotivates the mining process. On top of that, the Swarm network is unable to identify low stability nodes. SANA seeks to solve one problem by building a secure, transparent, cost-efficient network storage system. The project also aims to resolves the issue of the excessive token supply by adopting a two-layer mining structure that effectively rewards nodes and miners.

SANA uses Proof of Capacity (PoC) to reward the nodes participating and contributing to the network. PoC is a blockchain consensus-mechanism algorithm that allows mining devices to pick mining privileges and validate transactions using available hard drive space. POC allows SANA to provide its users and network contributors with fair and transparent financial payment and settlement services.

Also, the network seeks to build a distributed network ecosystem with robust infrastructure and skilled DApp developers. This distributed network ecosystem would be used for application deployment and to expand blockchain technology. Currently, the network helps to enable Ethereum and DApp developers to deploy applications and updates without complication. This may allow developers to focus on their projects more and save funds because they no longer need to understand the underlying infrastructure.

Some of the highlights of the SANA project are as follows:

$SANA is an ERC20 token of the network. The token is built as a governance token to assist network transactions. The SANA network seeks to allocate 8% of the total token to its community of technical contributors, 7% to project development, 2% to the early liquidity pool, and 3% to reward the SANA network's loyal members. Network participants and contributors can mint 80% of the total tokens. (Minting is the process through which new coins come into existence.)

The token has a maximum supply of 10 billion $SANA.
