The Rune platform is an open-ended fantasy gaming universe. Players can play a battle, join a guild, collect powerful weapons and earn rewards. Rune is defining the future of blockchain gaming, evolving licensed NFT (non-fungible token) and marketplace. The Rune platform aims to build a modern gaming experience backed by open hash technology. (Hash is a function that completes the encrypted demands required to solve blockchain computation.)

According to the whitepaper, the Rune ecosystem aims to align the incentives between players and developers in novel ways. The ecosystem has two primary goals: 

Runes are small stones inscribed with magical symbols. Players can collect Rune to earn games, compete with other players, raid yield farms, purchase through the market, airdrops, boss battles, and other mechanics. (An airdrop is a marketing method of distribution of specific cryptocurrencies.)

The platform offers seven classes of heroes, and players can play with one of them. These heroes are regarded as unique NFTs in blockchain gaming. Runes must mint Rune words (NFTs), weapons, and armors suitable for every hero. (Minting is a process of producing new tokens through the proof-of-stake protocol.) A combination of Runes is a recipe that users need to know to mint or craft a rune word in the crafting cube. Users must burn at minimum one of each Rune in the recipe to craft NFT. 

The ecosystem of Rune allows players to have complete ownership over their gameplay, gaming assets, and future direction of the game. Rune ecosystem also allows players to create their hero out of seven classes and collect various runes. Players may have assets for life, monetize their hard work, and participate in governance, polling, and a constant feedback loop. Gamers can transfer their NFT to other games supporting Rune NFTs.

The RUNE is the BEP-20 governance token of the Rune ecosystem. A governance token is a token that empowers its owners to participate in the voting to shape the future protocol. The RUNE token allows coin owners to earn rewards through staking or participating in governance votes. The Rune universe allows users to earn tokens when the users play various games.  

The Rune website was launched in the fourth quarter of 2020.
