Holders of the RAIL token can vote on the governance proposals on the platform. To be able to vote, holders have to stake their RAIL tokens. One token equals one vote. The RAIL token is to be channeled into liquidity pools. The users who contribute to the early pools can exert governance rights within the RAILGUN platform. The anonymous nature of the liquidity pools can aim to protect the identity of the token holders. The developers envision that this anonymity can help to develop a robust ecosystem that would lead to RAILGUN DAO.

The whitepaper of RAILGUN was released in July 2021. The project was founded by Emmanuel Goldstein. Kieran Mesquita is the chief scientist of the project, while Dr. Andrey Kravchenk is the project manager. Phil Huang, Edward P. Fricker, Alyssa G., and Dr. Geoff Goodell are the advisers to the RAILGUN project. A total of 100 million RAIL tokens is to be the maximum total supply.
