LIQ Protocol is an on-chain decentralized liquidation engine protocol created for derivatives markets on Serum and lending platform on the Solana network. The Serum is a decentralized exchange (DEX) ecosystem built on Solana that brings improved speed and low costs to decentralized finance (DeFi). The LIQ Protocol aims to keep the Solana and the Serum platforms healthy by regulating liquidations and providing capital across different derivatives.

As per the whitepaper, the LIQ Protocol helps the ecosystem grow and strengthens the protocol. The liquidators' profits are used for trading back the LIQ and redistributing back to the liquidity providers. Some of the profit is also added to the insurance fund to keep up with constant development and expansion. The protocol provides liquidity for Solana-based margin/borrowing projects by using its engines to manage liquidations full-time, allowing projects to have a firm backend for dealing with settlement liquidity.
