As mentioned in its lightpaper, the mission of the Axis team is to empower and enable a simplified and harmonized ‘Axis portal’. The Axis portal allows users to perform swaps using any part of the DeFi ecosystem. Axis effectively combines DEX aggregation and DEX routing in a revolutionary cross-chain, layer-2 DEX solution. In the process of DEX routing, the most liquid pool that is available is sourced for users to perform a swap. Users can reduce slippage (difference in expected and actual price) when performing a transaction by sourcing the most saturated liquidity pool. Next, DEX aggregation refers to the process of leveraging multiple liquidity pools to do a single transaction. The DEX aggregation functionality is necessary while swapping an amount of value above a certain threshold. The threshold can vary from token to token.

The main features of Axis include crypto-wide liquidity support and multi-currency and asset support. Further, Axis offers benefits such as 24/7 access to the market, high volume capacity, and other layer 2 solutions.

According to the roadmap of the platform, the development of Axis occurred in four stages in 2021. The initial stage, Q1, involved the solidification of teams in Asia and America. The Q2 stage of 2021 included the release of its lightpaper and sourcing strategic investors. Further, ETH optimized DEX routing and launch of cross-chain assets took place in the Q3 stage of 2021. Subsequently, the Q4 stage involved the BSC & HECO optimized DEX routing launch and Bridge Support.
