Auto (AUTO) is the native utility and governance token of the Autofarm protocol, a cross-chain yield aggregator that launched in December 2020 on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC). The protocol enables users to optimize potential compensation on their assets from yield farming pools by staking in Autofarm vaults. The AUTO token is used for voting on proposals and receives fees earned from the protocol. Auto operates through two main products: Vaults and AutoSwap. Vaults is a yield farming platform that compounds yields at optimal intervals, providing yield optimization strategies. It benefits users by socializing gas costs and automating the yield generation and compounding process. AutoSwap, on the other hand, is a DEX aggregator that provides users with competitive prices for their DEX trades. It splits trades across multiple DEXes to ensure competitive price value and lowest slippage. Users do not need to be fully versed in the underlying protocols involved or DeFi, as Vaults represent a passive-investing strategy, aiming to increase the deposited assets of users.

Auto's primary use case is to optimize yields for users participating in yield farming. By staking their assets in Autofarm vaults, users may potentially receive higher compensation compared to traditional yield farming methods. The AUTO token also serves as a governance token, allowing holders to vote on proposals that shape the future of the Autofarm protocol. Additionally, AUTO token holders receive fees earned from the protocol, providing an additional compensation mechanism. The protocol's cross-chain capabilities also mean that it can support a wide range of assets, broadening its potential use cases.

Autofarm was launched in late December 2020 on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC) by a pseudonymous entity known only as @mildgiraffe. The protocol quickly gained traction, with the total value locked (TVL) increasing from $5 million to $537 million in less than two months, making Autofarm a player in the BSC ecosystem by April 2021. During this period, the value of AUTO also changed significantly. Autofarm expanded its ecosystem in March 2021 by acquiring Farmfol.io, an intelligent portfolio manager designed to simplify asset tracking on the Binance Smart Chain. The protocol also launched its first cross-chain vault on the Huobi ECO Chain in February 2021.
