Based Finance Next Gen, also known as OBOL, is a multi-token protocol that seeks to address the algorithmic token problem by transitioning to a pegless model. OBOL is a continuation of the seigniorage protocol, Based Finance, which provided utility and increased liquidity on the Fantom Blockchain. OBOL is a PEGLESS token, meaning it is not pegged to any asset, and it does not have a maximum total supply cap. The protocol's Perpetual Print mechanism mints OBOL regardless of the relative price, and it strives to maintain growth in value.

Based Finance Next Gen operates through a hybrid staking functionality. It consists of two tokens: OBOL and SMELT. OBOL is a pegless algorithmic token with an elastic supply, meaning it is constantly burned and minted as needed to maintain healthy growth and reduce unnecessary expansion. SMELT, on the other hand, is a measure of the value of the Based Next Gen Protocol and shareholder trust in the Perpetual Print Mechanism. During every epoch, the protocol mints OBOL and distributes it proportionally to all SMELT holders who have staked their tokens. The protocol also features a custom tax addition to any token, custom based holding discount incentive program, improved UI, and improved calculation times.

Based Finance Next Gen seeks to provide yield strategies and inclusivity for its users. It offers a range of potential use cases, including staking LP tokens or NFTs to earn SMELT tokens, and participating in the Boardroom, where users can stake their SMELT tokens and receive OBOL rewards. The protocol also introduces Twisted Nodes, a mechanism that allows users to lock their SMELT and receive back SMELT and also RFV equivalent in the chosen asset at the time of purchase. Based Finance Next Gen was launched on 25th July with 100,000 OBOL tokens minted. It is a continuation of the seigniorage protocol, Based Finance, which supported TOMB by pegging to tomb, thereby providing utility and increasing liquidity on the Fantom Blockchain.
