The Safe Network seeks to incorporate advanced peer-to-peer technology and allows users to own their data. With the Safe Network, the user can also control who has access to the data. Using the Safe Network platform, the user can browse and download completely anonymously and no additional account is needed from anywhere in the world. 

If the user is contributing some of the spare computing power to the network, then the inbuilt currency of the web can be obtained. The inbuilt currency Safe Network Tokens are incentive mechanisms that aim to reward the developers and users. 

MaidSafe (MAID) was released during MaidSafe's crowd exchange. These tokens can be swapped for the Safe Network token. This is achieved by burning when MaidSafe Coin (MAID) is sent to the wallet with no private key. This means the MaidSafe is lost forever. The purpose of burning MaidSafe is to reduce availability. Once the Safe Network goes live, MaidSafe can be exchanged for Safecoin. The currency MaidSafe is a proxy token for the main token available on Safe Network. The proxy token, like MaidSafe, can be exchanged easily, representing different assets on-chain. MAID tokens can be traded or purchased but can't be farmed.
