WebDollar (WEBD) is a web browser-based peer-to-peer cryptocurrency aiming to notably increase the adoption of decentralized currencies. WebDollar platform aims to offer the possibility to send and receive payments online on any browser. It is done directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution. At the same time, the transactions are secured and confirmed on the blockchain without passing through vulnerable channels like a web server. The main advantage of the protocol is that it can be mined via a browser and can transfer funds by storing the wallets locally without using third parties.

The WebDollar network and blockchain were designed to work without installing any additional software or plugins for wallets or mining. Here, a mini-blockchain is downloaded directly into the browser while the wallet is securely stored and encrypted directly in the users’ computer. As per the whitepaper, the network intends to act as the currency of the web by supporting smart contracts to allow decentralized organizations to create their tokens, taking advantage of the WebDollar protocol. Smart contracts are just like regular contracts; instead of being drafted on paper, these contracts run in the form of protocols on the blockchain.

Alexandru Ionut Budisteanu founded the WebDollar network. Budisteanu serves as the cofounder and protocol developer. Another cofounder of the network is Alexandru Panait, serving as general manager. The network does not have an official team, and it was launched with no ICO (initial coin offering) or FCO (free coin offering).

WEBD has a maximum total supply of 42,000,000,000 coins.
