Origin is leveraging OETH’s codebase to deploy wrapped OETH (wOETH) derivatives that enable users to earn multiples of staking yield on leading Layer-2 blockchains, starting with Arbitrum. The protocol is also harnessing OETH’s design to explore building native LSTs for leading EVM networks. Users can deposit ETH and OETH to the protocol’s native liquid restaking platform, PrimeStaked, to mint primeETH and remain liquid while earning rewards.

Origin’s sector-defining Automated Redemption Manager (ARM) offers deep liquidity for seamless swaps on redeemable assets with near zero slippage. In contrast to traditional AMMs, the ARM foregoes a bonding curve and bases prices on the time value of “borrowing” ETH. This unique design allows users to swap between supported LSTs and ETH at a virtually 1:1 rate, promoting far greater capital efficiency than traditional AMMs. 

OGN is the value-accrual and governance token for Origin’s ecosystem. Users can stake OGN for xOGN and earn a share of protocol revenue generated from all of Origin’s products.

Origin Protocol seeks to unlock value in crypto-centric opportunities across several verticals. Its Origin Story marketplaces aim to give creators and collectors more control over their content and digital products. These marketplaces offer unique ways for brands to utilize non-fungible tokens. For instance, the protocol supports token-gated access, soulbound tokens, various file formats, NFT auctions, and more. On the other hand, Origin Dollar, the protocol's stablecoin, simplifies DeFi by eliminating the need for staking or lock-ups, making it easier for users to potentially receive returns.

Origin Protocol was launched by Josh Fraser and Matthew Liu. Fraser, a coder since childhood, has been involved in the crypto industry since 2011 and is the founder of the web optimization company Torbit, later acquired by Walmart Labs. Liu, a Stanford engineering alumnus, has been involved in crypto since 2014 and participated in the Ethereum crowd-sale in 2014. The protocol’s founding engineer is Yu Pan, a former co-founder of Paypal and ex-Google executive. Pantera Capital is one of the investors in Origin, and other investors include Foundation Capital, Blocktower, Steve Chen (a well-known internet entrepreneur), Alexis Ohanian (a recognized internet entrepreneur), and Garry Tan (partner at Y Combinator).
