Trading via a decentralized exchange (DEX) works differently from a centralized exchange. We don't "list" or "support" DEX assets in the traditional sense. A newly created asset onchain becomes available to trade within hours on the Coinbase app. Our systems automatically detect these new assets, making them discoverable and tradable through our DEX interface.

When a new DEX asset appears on a supported network, our system automatically indexes it so customers can discover the asset. Some assets, such as known scams that are flagged by a trusted third party, are automatically filtered and will not be shown to users. Other risks that our third party provider detects, like a high concentration of holders, are disclosed to users to empower users to make their own choices.

No. You can still trade assets listed on our centralized exchange on Coinbase. With DEX integration, you can access and trade onchain assets before they are listed on the centralised exchange.  This allows you to choose the trading experience that's right for you, all from one place.

• Coinbase-listed assets have been through our rigorous review and listing process. This provides a straightforward way to trade a trusted and curated selection of assets on our centralised exchange. Coinbase-listed assets are held on your behalf by Coinbase.

• DEX assets: DEX allows you to access a vast, open world of assets as soon as they are created. This provides faster access to emerging assets onchain. However, Coinbase does not review or hold DEX assets - they are held by you in a self-custodial software wallet.

This dual access gives you the flexibility to choose between the curated selection on our centralized exchange, or faster and expansive access through DEXs. As DEX assets are not reviewed or approved by Coinbase, you should make sure that you understand the risks of trading in them and holding them, and you can learn more here.

Before you confirm any trade, we will show you a detailed breakdown of all estimated costs:

• Coinbase fee: We may apply a trading fee calculated at the time you place your order. If you are an active Coinbase One member, you will pay zero Coinbase fee for all DEX trades (a monthly trading volume limit may apply; learn more about Coinbase One here).

• DEX service fee: We may charge an additional service fee for DEX trades. Part of this service fee may be used to cover network fee payments. Coinbase may retain any excess service fee from a transaction. This service fee is not eligible for Coinbase One Zero Fee Trading benefits.

DEX assets are not reviewed or approved by Coinbase, and so come with different risks to assets which are listed on the centralised exchange.  You can learn more about risks here.To help you do your own research, we have built tools to provide information on DEX assets.

First, we work with a trusted third-party vendor to identify assets that are confirmed to be malicious or fraudulent. These assets will not be available to buy through our DEX interface.

Additionally, for the millions of assets that are available, we provide key market data pulled directly from onchain data, and risk insights provided by third-parties. This can include warnings about token contracts, liquidity information, and other signals designed to help you make a more informed decision. However, it's important to remember that not all risks will necessarily be detected for each asset.You should always do your own research before making a trade.
