Aptos was co-founded by Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, former Meta engineers involved in the Diem blockchain project. After Diem was discontinued in 2022, they established Aptos Labs to continue developing a scalable blockchain infrastructure. The project secured funding from venture capital firms, including Andreessen Horowitz, FTX Ventures, and Jump Crypto, reaching a valuation of $4 billion. Aptos launched its mainnet later in 2022, introducing its high-performance Layer 1 blockchain to the web3 ecosystem.
