Sony’s Soneium blockchain has launched its first music NFT collection, marking a significant step in the intersection of blockchain and the music industry.

The debut collection was created in collaboration with onchain record label Coop Records, which aims to revolutionize music monetization and distribution through blockchain technology.

“In collaboration with Soneium, Coop Records is redefining music monetisation models,” Soneium said in a post on X.

Tokyo Producer NUU$HI Drops 22-Minute Unreleased Track as NFT on Sonova

The NFT collection features a 22-minute-long unreleased music track from Tokyo-based producer NUU$HI and is now live on Sonova, Soneium’s NFT marketplace.

The track is priced at 0.000777 ETH ($2.11), with 644 copies minted at the time of writing.

Coop Records, a community-owned record label, has already moved over 600 songs onchain and seeks to address the inequitable profit-sharing models prevalent in the traditional music industry.

The label leverages blockchain to ensure fairer revenue distribution between artists, streaming platforms, and record labels.

Founder Cooper Turley previously highlighted the shift in focus within the crypto space, stating, “Crypto is finally entering the era where apps are the main focus. And with tokens at the center, creators and power users will be the biggest winners.”

Soneium echoed this sentiment, emphasizing its commitment to supporting artists with fair distribution models.

Sony Blockchain Solutions Labs, the company’s Singapore-based unit, has previously highlighted potential blockchain use cases such as intellectual property protection and transparent profit-sharing.

The Ethereum Layer 2-powered Soneium mainnet officially launched on January 14, with plans to expand its influence in entertainment and music industries.

While Sony Music Group owns major labels like Columbia Records and RCA Records, no official crossover between those labels and Soneium has been announced.

According to Soneium’s data, the blockchain has already accumulated over 248,000 accounts and 1.9 million addresses, signaling growing adoption in the web3 music space.

Sony Launches Four-Week Campaign To Onboard New Users to Its Soneium Blockchain

Last month, Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), a Sony Group company established in Singapore in 2023, announced the launch of Soneium Conquest, a four-week campaign aimed to introduce the public to its Soneium blockchain.

According to the company announcement shared with Cryptonews, the campaign will feature a variety of learning modules, engaging challenges, and interactive experiences.

Soneium Conquest invites creators, developers, and blockchain enthusiasts to explore the Soneium ecosystem and discover the potential of Web3.

The campaign, hosted on the Galxe platform, will focus on four key areas: creativity, connection, joy, and immersion.

During the first week, participants will explore how Soneium empowers creators to bring their visions to life through blockchain-based experiences.

The second week will focus on how Soneium works with its community and boosts communication and collaborations within the digital realm.

Weeks three and four will delve into the world of blockchain gaming, showcasing how Soneium leverages entertainment and fosters user engagement.
