Google Cloud To Enter Blockchain Node World with New Service

Tech giant Google is increasing its exposure to digital assets and blockchain through the kicking off of a new solution, Blockchain Node Engine. In a statement, the company calls the solution “a fully managed node-hosting for web3 development” that will allow developers build and deploy new products on various blockchain-based platforms.

“Nodes on a blockchain form a peer-to-peer network, constantly exchanging the latest blockchain data so that all nodes stay in sync,” the business said.

“While self-managed nodes are often difficult to deploy and require constant management, Blockchain Node Engine is a fully managed node-hosting service that can minimize the need for node operations,” according to the statement which was jointly signed by two senior officials from Alphabet, Google’s parent company: Amit Zavery, the GM/VP of engineering and platform, and James Tromans, the director of Cloud Web3.

“Web3 companies who require dedicated nodes can relay transactions, deploy smart contracts, and read or write blockchain data with the reliability, performance, and security they expect from Google Cloud compute and network infrastructure,” the statement said.

Google said that, under the plan, ethereum (ETH) will be the first blockchain to be supported by Blockchain Node Engine. This will allow developers to provision fully managed ETH nodes with safe blockchain access. It is expected that Google will gradually add further blockchains to the service’s portfolio.

The tech giant said that Blockchain Node Engine will provide Web3 organizations with the following benefits:

Streamlined provisioning

Google Cloud’s Blockchain Node Engine can make the process of syncing a full node faster and easier to developers by allowing them to deploy a new node with a single operation, as well as specify the desired region and network (mainnet, testnet).

Secure development

Google’s Blockchain Node Engine allows developers to use security configurations that can help avoid unauthorized access to the nodes, placing nodes behind a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) firewall.

Fully managed operations

The company designed its Blockchain Node Engine as a fully managed service to ensure its uninterrupted availability to users. Google Cloud actively monitors the nodes and relaunches them during outages. By cutting the need for a dedicated DevOps team, and by relying on Google Cloud’s service level agreement (SLA), the solution reduces users’ focus on digital infrastructure maintenance, according to Google.

“We look forward to supporting organizations with a reliable, easy-to-use blockchain node hosting service so they can focus their time on innovating and scaling their Web3 applications,” according to the statement.
