RETRACTED: Here’s How Some FTX Account Holders Can Get Their Money Back – But Time Is Running Out

EDITOR’S NOTE (Nov. 21, 2022, 17:32 UTC): This article partly misinterpreted comments by Joshua Browder, the CEO of DoNotPay, and, according to Nacha, the organization that governs the Automated Clearing House (ACH), the comments that were accurately reported were misleading and could lead consumers to break the law.
First, in his appearance Friday on CoinDesk TV’s “First Mover,” Browder spoke the words “Schedule E,” but he was not referring to the tax form of that name, which is for claiming losses to offset income on U.S. taxes, not for recouping money from a private business. Rather, as is clear from context, he meant Regulation E, which governs electronic funds transfers in the U.S.
Moreover, a consumer who requests the reversal of an ACH charge claiming that debits against an account were “unauthorized” even if they were, in fact, authorized “would be committing a federal crime (see 18 U.S.C. Section 1344),” said Michael Herd, senior vice president of ACH Network administration at Nacha.
