Akropolis (AKRO) is a decentralized finance protocol that operates on the Ethereum blockchain. Akropolis was initially conceived as a distributed savings and pensions fund, aiming to address the potential collapse of state pensions systems. However, it has since shifted its focus to building the underlying framework for such a system through AkropolisOS. This allows for the rapid launch of for-profit capital pools. The Sparta platform, part of the Akropolis suite, provides access to uncollateralized loans, while Delphi offers yield farming and dollar-cost averaging tools. These products strive to provide an ecosystem for wealth growth and preservation in the decentralized finance space.

Akropolis was founded in 2017 by Ana Andrianova, who has a background in investment management and private equity advisory. The project was first announced in March 2018 and launched on the Ethereum mainnet in June 2020. Akropolis has a fixed maximum supply of 4 billion AKRO tokens, which were initially distributed through two private token presales in 2018. The AKRO token was publicly listed in July 2019. The Akropolis suite of products utilizes the AKRO token in its protocol, with transactions validated through the Ethereum blockchain's proof-of-work consensus algorithm. The smart contracts for AKRO underwent an audit by blockchain security firm CertiK in August 2019.
