The twins are notable for their work in shaping the sector, primarily from their efforts in founding<a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/gemini\"> Gemini Exchange<\/a>, a regulated cryptocurrency brokerage, in 2014 and launching related services under the Gemini banner, such as custodial offerings and a stablecoin product.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier last week, and on the tenth anniversary of <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\">Bitcoin<\/a>, the twins took out a full-page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/story\/winklevoss-twins-gemini-ad-campaign-hopes-to-ignite-the-peoples-movement-2019-01-09\">advertisement<\/a> in The New York Times promoting the Gemini Exchange and its newly-launched mobile app, close on the heels of rival exchange <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bitmex\">BitMEX<\/a> They have also launched a campaign aimed at educating and spreading awareness of bitcoin to the masses and, hopefully, gain some users for Gemini.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Find the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Gemini?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Gemini<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/cryptobus?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#cryptobus<\/a> around Manhattan all week! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/cryptowithoutchaos?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#cryptowithoutchaos<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5kwhG0czaF\">pic.twitter.com\/5kwhG0czaF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Gemini (@Gemini) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Gemini\/status\/1082726902622797825?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 8, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Pushing for Crypto-Regulation<\/h2>\n<p>Titled \u201c<em>Revolutions<\/em><em>\u00a0Need Rules<\/em>,\u201d the advertisement follows Gemini\u2019s seemingly long-held business ethos of keeping the authorities pleased and not operating in a legal grey area. Since Gemini\u2019s inception in 2014, the Winklevoss twins have sought all the necessary licenses and permits for operation while offering a limited range of cryptocurrencies to trade.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler stated in the interview:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe idea is that companies that build on top of things like Bitcoin should have regulation that\u2019s thoughtful and that doesn\u2019t stifle innovation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Cameron added bitcoin\u2019s long-term growth is affected by a misconception of the asset\u2019s anonymity features. Contrary to popular convention, Bitcoin addresses are similar to transaction IDs and wallet addresses are available for public viewing on its underlying blockchain. Coins such as <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/monero\">Monero<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/zcash\">ZCash<\/a>, however, mask their addresses. Cameron believes \u201cthe only thing gold has over bitcoin is a 3000-year head start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the twins had no luck launching a Bitcoin ETF last year, despite offering several traditional market features to Gemini customers, such as insurance of all digital assets and custody services.
