Justin Sun<\/a> rebutted claims by a former BitTorrent<\/a> executive who said that tokenizing BitTorrent's economy on Tron would “literally destroy it.”<\/p>\n

Speaking to Breaker Magazine<\/a>, BitTorrent\u2019s ex-Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) Simon Morris on Friday raised a host of questions about the technological capabilities of Tron and CEO Justin Sun, asserting the blockchain would \u201cmelt\u201d under the strain of the envisaged tokenized BitTorrent network. Furthermore, he claimed that the team would deceptively use centralized architecture to boost transactional throughput.<\/p>\n

Morris, who according to Breaker<\/a>, originally conceived of the recently unveiled BitTorrent Token<\/a>, had the following criticism:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe transactional capacity we [were] looking at was needing hundreds of transactions a second just to get started. It\u2019s simply not there. You hear all the bullshit out there, oh, this does 10,000 transactions a second. It\u2019s all crap. We were going to melt Tron. Literally destroy it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Taking a \u201cHybrid Approach\u201d<\/h2>\n

On Monday, Sun wrote a Reddit post titled \u201cAddressing the Recent Questions Around BitTorrent Token's Upcoming Rollout<\/em><\/a>\u201d likely with the intention of taking some of the heat off of Tron.<\/p>\n

Despite officially blasting Morris as a \u201cdisgruntled employee\u201d with \u201clittle insight into Tron operational plans,\u201d as Breaker reported<\/a>, Sun did concede that the former BitTorrent executive had spoken one truth in his interview:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe former employee, Simon Morris, got one thing right in his statement to an online cryptocurrency outlet: based on confidential research done while he was at BitTorrent, he describes the project\u2019s tremendous potential: \u2018Automated auctions to prioritize download queues, Morris says, could make the entire BitTorrent network as much as 40 percent faster.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Tron CEO did not offer comment on a number of Morris\u2019s arguably more damning concerns, including statements such as Sun takes a \u201cTrumpian approach\u201d to lies and \u201cdoesn\u2019t have a technical bone in his body.\u201d Morris went as far as to suggest that Tron\u2019s team might even misrepresent, through its marketing, the architecture of Tron:<\/p>\n

\u201cI suspect that what they\u2019re really going to do is they\u2019ll do it on some central server, they\u2019ll wave their hands and say, \u2018Oh, it\u2019s a Lightning Network for Tron,\u2019 or something, and pretend it\u2019s Tron-based, but it\u2019s not really Tron-based.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But according to Sun, the project\u2019s white paper, released a week prior to the Breaker interview, describes a \u201chybrid approach\u201d that sheds light on how Tron will scale to reach BitTorrent\u2019s noted transactional requirements. Sun stated:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur project whitepaper<\/a> was published on Jan. 3rd, a full week before the online article, and answers some of the very questions posed by the former employee. In the whitepaper, we write: \u2018BitTorrent Inc. will deploy an \u2018on-chain\/off-chain exchange,\u2019 which exists to facilitate the transfer of tokens between a high-performance private ledger and the public TRON blockchain.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For Sun\u2019s assurances, however, the paper\u2019s<\/a> concise description of a \u201chigh-performance private ledger\u201d may read as one that is deliberately opaque, and could vindicate Morris in his suspicions of a covertly centralized, and decidedly Tron-less, BitTorrent Token. Or, maybe Tron really does have a unique, innovative solution for better scaling BitTorrent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
