Day One of the event focusses on the regulatory implications faced by the blockchain industry, including talks on Regulatory Foresight, government backing for crypto-startups, Malta\u2019s relevance in the space, and cryptocurrency taxes.<\/p>\n<p>The day\u2019s second half moves on to applications of blockchain technology in widespread governance and social change, financial markets, and even the Hollywood industry.<\/p>\n<p>The first half of Day Two covers more technical topics aimed at engineers and developers, such as leveraging smart contracts in decentralized application (dApp) development, a \u201cblockchain-of-things\u201d feature, and the need of authentic code before deploying an ICO, amongst other talks.<\/p>\n<p>The latter half explores the potential world of \u201ccrypto-finance,\u201d including token economics and modeling, planning for technology development post-ICO, the evolution of banks and cryptocurrencies, and discussing the future of crypto-trading.<\/p>\n<p>Notable speakers include Charles Hoskinson of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/input-output-iohk\/\">IOHK<\/a>, which develops and maintains both <a href=\"\/coins\/cardano\/\">Cardano<\/a> and <a href=\"\/coins\/ethereum-classic\/\">Ethereum Classic<\/a> networks, antivirus entrepreneur and security expert John McAfee, Miko Matsumura of Evercoin exchange, European Parliament member Eva Kaili and <a href=\"\/coins\/tron\/\">Tron<\/a> CEO Justin Sun.<\/p>\n<p>Events aimed at showcasing innovation and exceptional talent \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/more-than-250-coders-to-battle-at-malta-blockchain-summit\/\">Blockchain Hackathon<\/a> and ICO pitch \u2013 take place individually each day for deserving participants to win handsome bounties. The former sees groups of four to eight participants engaging in a hacking head-to-head for a $50,000 prize, while the latter has 40 ICOs pitching their product to a panel of investors to win a seed capital of $100,000.<\/p>\n<h2>Spearheading Crypto-Regulations<\/h2>\n<p>Earlier this year in July, the Maltese Parliament <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/rachelwolfson\/2018\/07\/05\/maltese-parliament-passes-laws-that-set-regulatory-framework-for-blockchain-cryptocurrency-and-dlt\/#19ddeba049ed\">passed three bills<\/a> into law for establishing the country\u2019s, and amongst the world\u2019s, first regulatory framework for blockchain, cryptocurrency, and DLT.<\/p>\n<p>Silvio Schembri, Minister for Financial Services, Digital Economy and Innovation, approval of the laws made <a href=\"\/places\/malta\/\">Malta<\/a> the first country to offer a holistic regulatory framework for DLT operations, which range from cryptocurrencies and other non-finance applications of blockchain technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malta\u2019s relevance as a \u201cblockchain island\u201d is set to increase in the coming weeks, as the small geography plays host to some of the world\u2019s premier speakers, evangelists, and ministers as part of the Malta Blockchain Summit 2018.
