The group will identify opportunities and challenges and work with government, industry and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/startups?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#startups<\/a> to develop the ecosystem. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Ciu10RV7Kf\">https:\/\/t.co\/Ciu10RV7Kf<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SecretaryMEITY?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@SecretaryMEITY<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FinMinIndia?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FinMinIndia<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PMOIndia?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@PMOIndia<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; IAMAI (@IAMAIForum) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/IAMAIForum\/status\/1052063935891787778?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 16, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The groups stated goal is to \u201cidentify opportunities and challenges and work with government, industry, and startups to develop the ecosystem,\u201d according to The Economic Times. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Committee Heads Optimistic on Blockchain<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Committee Chair Tina Singh said she believes blockchain is the \u201ctechnology of the future\u201d and will usher in a new era of trust and accountability for businesses, stating: <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBlockchain is undeniably the technology of the future, slated to bring decentralization, trust and accountability into multiple areas of business. However, in order to be more effective and enter the mainstream, blockchain technology needs the intervention of government bodies, regulatory authorities and corporates.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Singh is the chief digital officer of Mahindra Finance, and other members of the committee bring some equally impressive credentials with them. Mastercard\u2019s Manish Gupta, Samiran Ghosh of Microsoft, and Jitan Chandanani are all members. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Blockchain Committee co-chair Prasanna Lohar echoed Singh\u2019s sentiments, saying the committee would look for ways to push innovation forward and make blockchain a \u201cradical change agent\u201d in India\u2019s economy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cBlockchain adoption will be achieved through building trust in the economic, social and environmental potential of the token and blockchain economy,\u201d said Lohar of the committee\u2019s goals, and added that &#8220;to reap blockchain benefits, however, the technology will need to be developed responsibly within the right regulatory\u00a0frameworks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Crypto Slowly Expanding in India<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Despite a persistent negative outlook by the Indian government on cryptocurrencies, they do appear to be ready to explore the applications of blockchain tech in other areas. As we reported in August, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/indian-government-forms-blockchain-and-cryptocurrency-task-force\/\"><span class=\"s3\">instituted a task force<\/span><\/a> to investigate unique uses of the blockchain, AI, and cryptocurrency. The effort to form a regulatory body governing digital assets mirrors efforts by agencies like the CTFC in the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88853\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88853\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-88853\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/india-btc-xrp-eth-supported-coins-social-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"Unocoin to Launch Crypto ATM in India Soon; BTC, XRP, and ETH Among Supported Coins\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88853\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Related:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/unocoin-to-launch-crypto-atm-in-india-soon-btc-xrp-and-eth-among-supported-coins\/\">Unocoin to Launch Crypto ATM in India Soon; BTC, XRP, and ETH Among Supported Coins<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The Indian Supreme Court has been scheduled to hold a hearing on crypto since the summer but has continued to defer it, and the country is scheduled to get its <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/unocoin-to-launch-crypto-atm-in-india-soon-btc-xrp-and-eth-among-supported-coins\/\"><span class=\"s3\">first crypto ATM machines<\/span><\/a> very soon, courtesy of Unocoin. The machines will reportedly be installed in shopping malls and will not accept debit or credit, and only be accessible to Unocoin customers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">All of this makes for an uncertain atmosphere surrounding cryptocurrencies.
