{"id":89206,"date":"2018-10-15T16:25:13","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T23:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=89206"},"modified":"2026-04-29T11:13:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T10:13:38","slug":"ethereum-eth-developer-no-constantinople-hard-fork-in-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-eth-developer-no-constantinople-hard-fork-in-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethereum (ETH) Developer: \u201cNo Constantinople\u201d Hard Fork in 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The much-awaited Constantinople hard fork face yet another setback last week after an alleged \u201cconsensus\u201d issue caused developers to term the testnet \u201cnot usable,\u201d as per a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/infura_io\/status\/1051210032392691714\">tweet<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a> infrastructure firm Infura on Oct. 13.<\/p>\n<h2>Constantinople Delayed<\/h2>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/econoar\/status\/1051183111948517377\">stated<\/a> by several Ethereum developers, the Constantinople became active on the Ropsten testnet at block no. 4,230,00. However, testing results caused consensus issues on Ropsten, which led developer Afri Schoedon to note that while developers are actively investigating the issue, there would be \u201cno Constantinople\u201d in 2018.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">no constantinople in 2018, we have to investigate<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; ???? ???????? (@5chdn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/5chdn\/status\/1051194779890003974?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 13, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Infura further advised developers and Ethereum enthusiasts to utilize testnets other than Ropsten while the issue is being investigated.<\/p>\n<p>Schoedon followed up his initial message with another note on Oct. 14, during the Ethereum core developers\u2019 call. All developers unanimously agreed that further \u201cmajor issues\u201d on Ropsten would cause the Constantinople hard fork to be indefinitely delayed. The next call is slated for Oct. 19, and the community was asked to keep track of developments until then.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">To add to this, we just agreed on the last all-core-dev call on Friday that we will not be able to activate Constantinople this year if there are any major issues on Ropsten.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone, stay tuned for the Ropsten Constantinople call on next Friday.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; ???? ???????? (@5chdn) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/5chdn\/status\/1051399202549448704?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 14, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>For the uninitiated, the Constantinople hard fork is a system-wide Ethereum update to improve the network\u2019s efficiency, apart from drastically enhancing the user experience for both developers and end-users. One of the most significant changes is the reduction of blockchain reward from 3 ETH to 2 ETH every 14 seconds, which helps to keep the protocol\u2019s inflation rate in control. Currently, the inflation rate is 7.4 percent per annum.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Conner, one of the most prominent Ethereum proponents, stated earlier in a blog post that the 33 percent in block rewards will \u201cdrastically improve\u201d inflation rate.
