According to reports, the fund has raised around $400M from investors such as Yale University. It\u2019s unclear at this point exactly how much of Yale\u2019s nearly $30BN endowment they\u2019ve put into Paradigm, and as of this writing, they could not immediately be reached for comment. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">WHOA.<\/p>\n<p>Yale University&#39;s $30 billion endowment invested in Paradigm, the new crypto fund led by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/matthuang?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@matthuang<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FEhrsam?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FEhrsam<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Yale is 2nd largest higher education endowment in the US & generally thought to be the most prestigious.<\/p>\n<p>The virus is spreading and no one can stop it ?<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Pomp ? (@APompliano) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/APompliano\/status\/1048171923484684289?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 5, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Paradigm, according to Noyes, plans to invest the money into early-stage cryptocurrency projects, new blockchains, and exchanges. According to Bloomberg, he was invited to join Paradigm by its other two founders after less than a year at Pantera. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI wanted to try my hand at sort of re-architecting the internet in a way that I think is more democratized,\u201d he said of his decision to join the fund. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Some say that Yale\u2019s endorsement of Paradigm could bolster confidence in the fund, and in the cryptocurrency market as a whole, since Yale\u2019s endowment manager David Swensen has a track record for savvy investing. Swensen has managed the second-largest endowment in U.S. higher education for 30 years and done it well enough that others have tried to replicate his efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">This isn\u2019t the first time Yale has invested in cryptocurrency, either. According to CNBC, they\u2019ve invested money from their endowment into Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/10\/05\/yale-investment-chief-david-swensen-jumps-into-crypto-with-bets-on-two-silicon-valley-funds.html\"><span class=\"s2\">$300M crypto investment fund<\/span><\/a> as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As CNBC points out, the two investments represent a tiny portion of the billions that Swensen is managing, but a successful return on that investment could convert some market holdouts into crypto investors. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">A Market in Need of a Boost<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">After a surge in 2017, cryptocurrencies have taken a downward turn. Bitcoin, in particular, has gone down in market value 50 percent, and the entire cryptocurrency market has dipped 63 percent, according to data pulled from <a href=\"https:\/\/coinmarketcap.com\/\"><span class=\"s2\">coinmarketcap.com<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_87495\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87495\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-87495 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/image.png 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-87495\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image courtesy of Bloomberg.com.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Fears over the lack of consistent regulation in the crypto market also have investors worried they\u2019ll sink millions into digital assets only to have it vanish in the wake of a hacking attack or market collapse. Top investors like Warren Buffet have bashed crypto, calling it \u201crat poison.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">There are, however, signs of a turnaround. Market experts are predicting that Bitcoin has hit\u00a0its bottom and will make a comeback. State and federal regulatory agencies like the SEC and CFTC are joining the hunt for bad actors and shutting down the ones they find.
