People want to know who they\u2019re sending their money to, and that it's being used for the intended purpose. One of the most common arguments for KYC is that these regulations make it harder to finance terrorism and other illicit activities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">KYC commonly involves collecting information from customers that use a service like their name, address, citizenship, date of birth, and a government-issued ID. The process is similar to the application for a U.S. passport and is designed to form a complete picture of a person that\u2019s hard to fake. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">How will Electroneum use it?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to the publication FinTech Finance, Yoti will partner with Electroneum\u2019s developers to create an app-based KYC protocol users can follow when sending or receiving ETN from their mobile wallets. Richard Ells, founder and CEO of Electroneum, said in an interview that: <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThis will help us evolve from a cryptocurrency into a recognized means of digital payment like PayPal or Apple Pay, which will enable us to help our core market: smartphone users in developing and emerging countries.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_85136\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85136\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-85136\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/civic-partners-brave-reusable-KYC-social-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"Civic Partners With Brave to Bring Reusable KYC Verification to Verified Publishers\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-85136\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/civic-partners-with-brave-to-bring-reusable-kyc-verification-to-verified-publishers\/\">Civic Partners With Brave to Bring Reusable KYC Verification to Verified Publishers<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Electroneum claims that Yoti\u2019s protocol will let users verify their identity in seconds, much like the partnership <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/civic-partners-with-brave-to-bring-reusable-kyc-verification-to-verified-publishers\/\">Brave Software recently integrated<\/a>\u00a0into its browser for its verified publisher service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to Tom White of Yoti, users will only need to create their Yoti profile one time, after which it can be used to repeatedly confirm their identity \u201cin seconds\u201d any time it\u2019s needed. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">KYC technology will most likely be on the rise in the cryptocurrency space, especially as both state and federal regulators ramp up their efforts to crack down on fraud and shut down the companies responsible.
