{"id":86716,"date":"2018-10-02T03:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-10-02T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=86716"},"modified":"2026-04-30T11:46:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T10:46:41","slug":"ethereum-co-founder-invests-millions-in-former-competitors-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/ethereum-co-founder-invests-millions-in-former-competitors-company\/","title":{"rendered":"Ethereum Co-founder Invests Millions in Former Competitor\u2019s Company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin has announced a partnership with a company founded by some of Ethereum\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/michaeldelcastillo\/2018\/10\/01\/ethereum-co-founder-invests-65-million-in-former-competitors\/#255a2af15880\"><span class=\"s2\">biggest competitors<\/span><\/a>, according to Forbes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Lubin is set to invest $6.5 million into Bermuda-based stealth startup DrumG. <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/consensys\/\">ConsenSys<\/a> will take a minority stake in the company, and Lubin will become the only one outside the company to sit on DrumG\u2019s board of directors.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">During the fireside chat at the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Bermuda?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Bermuda<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Consensys?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@consensys<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ethereumJoseph?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ethereumJoseph<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BermudaPremier?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@BermudaPremier<\/a> spoke about <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/FinTech?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#FinTech<\/a> opportunities for young people &#8211; all you need is an idea and a laptop to create the world\u2019s next billion dollar company. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GFeptgxBCF\">pic.twitter.com\/GFeptgxBCF<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bermuda Government (@BdaGovernment) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BdaGovernment\/status\/1046754848266498048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 1, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The reason this partnership may seem odd to some is that several high-level members of a company called <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/r3\/\">R3<\/a>, a main competitor of <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a>, are the ones who founded it. Nonetheless, Lubin seems excited to work with DrumG, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.wixstatic.com\/ugd\/9cef40_b8f6549939624348b881012ccd3f4b6a.pdf\">official release<\/a>, where he states: <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">&#8220;We are\u00a0excited\u00a0to partner with\u00a0DrumG Technologies as a strategic investor and as a part of our broad portfolio of activity in the enterprise distributed ledger space. The team's proven experience in delivering enterprise solutions to regulated\u00a0capital markets, combined\u00a0with its deep knowledge of the\u00a0blockchain\u00a0technologies makes it a valuable part of the ConsenSys global financial services offering.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The \u2018rapidly evolving blockchain ecosystem'<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Forbes says this pairing is a result of a shift in the blockchain \u2018ecosystem\u2019 resulting in aligned interests between the two creators of opposing platforms. Namely, the people that helped build blockchain networks like the Ethereal network are moving on to build newer applications that can capitalize on those networks. Such is the case with DrumG and ConsenSys. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The picture moving forward<\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In the release, DrumG states its main goal moving forward will be building a new network for the transfer of over the counter (OTC) trading data to financial institutions on the Ethereum blockchain. Called the Titanium Network, the company touts it as a \u201cfaster, more capable and significantly cheaper option\u201d for getting this information to banks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Currently, according to Forbes, banks have to compile OTC data with a third party, then compare it with data from other institutions in order to determine any insights from the data. The Titanium Network is set to eliminate middlemen from the equation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">According to the company, Credit Suisse will be a founding member of the network, and DrumG hopes to deploy it live in the second fiscal quarter of 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin has announced a partnership with a company founded by some of Ethereum\u2019s biggest competitors, according to Forbes.
