{"id":85564,"date":"2018-09-25T07:00:08","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T14:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=85564"},"modified":"2019-11-25T04:25:07","modified_gmt":"2019-11-25T04:25:07","slug":"coinbase-partners-with-caspian-for-institutional-grade-trade-execution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-partners-with-caspian-for-institutional-grade-trade-execution\/","title":{"rendered":"Coinbase Partners with Caspian for Institutional-Grade Trade Execution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coinbase added another notch to its steadily institutionalizing belt, partnering with Caspian, a fledgling pro trading and risk management platform for cryptocurrency.<\/p>\n<p>The venture will see <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\">Coinbase<\/a> add Caspian\u2019s \u201csophisticated trading and portfolio management functionality\u201d to its institutionally-oriented arms\u2013Coinbase Pro and Coinbase Prime\u2013and may extend to further collaboration in the future, a press release on <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/caspian-tech\/coinbase-and-caspian-partner-to-drive-institutional-participation-in-crypto-fefe5037ac71\">Medium<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes days after the launch of Caspian\u2019s own &#8220;full-stack crypto asset management solution for institutions,&#8221; a joint venture between trading technology provider Tora and blockchain investment firm Kenetic\u2013allowing institutional traders to interface with multiple exchanges concurrently and executing orders across 25 major exchanges including Coinbase, <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/bitmex\">BitMEX<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/gemini\">Gemini<\/a>, Bitfinex, Poloniex, <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/huobi-global\">Huobi<\/a>, OKEx, BitFlyer and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/binance\/\">Binance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Caspian\u2019s CEO Robert Dykes explained the context for his young platform, giving a nod to Coinbase\u2019s apparent interest in turbocharging the institutionalization of crypto. He <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/caspian-tech\/coinbase-and-caspian-partner-to-drive-institutional-participation-in-crypto-fefe5037ac71\">stated<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Our goal at Caspian has always been to make it is as frictionless as possible for professional traders and investors to trade and manage portfolios of cryptocurrencies in order to drive exponential growth in this market and we\u2019re delighted that Coinbase shares this vision.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The deal will also see Coinbase's larger customers tap into Caspian's &#8220;comprehensive&#8221; trading algorithms and Smart Order Router, which would build on Coinbase\u2019s \u201cextensive range of institutional product offerings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81456\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81456\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81456\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/coinbase-explores-crypto-etf-blackrock-social-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"Coinbase Explores Launching a Crypto ETF, Consults With BlackRock\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81456\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-explores-launching-a-crypto-etf-consults-with-blackrock\/\">Coinbase Explores Launching a Crypto ETF, Consults With BlackRock<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Where it may have gained its name as a retail brokerage for crypto, the recent efforts of Coinbase to build infrastructure for a veritable flood of institutional capital would escape few. Indeed, with its recently launched <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/with-coinbase-custody-institutional-investors-can-now-invest-billions-in-crypto\/\">custodian<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-explores-launching-a-crypto-etf-consults-with-blackrock\/\">prospective ETF<\/a>, as well as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-hits-500-employee-mark-shrimpy-adds-portfolio-rebalancing-to-coinbase-pro\/\">steadily expanding the Coinbase Pro trading platform<\/a>, the San Francisco-based firm may be looking to reel in the bigger fish with Caspian\u2019s trading technology.<\/p>\n<p>Kayvon Pirestani, Director of Institutional Sales at Coinbase, said as much:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Customers will be able to take advantage of the best elements of both platforms\u200a\u2014\u200aaccessing Coinbase\u2019s extensive historical market data and deep pool of liquidity, and combined with Caspian\u2019s suite of seamless trading tools.
