Lifting Bitcoin to an apex of $6942, the rushed buy wall has pushed the coin to its highest levels of price and market capitalization since Aug. 7th.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77813\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77813\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77813\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/bitmex-btc-pump-social-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"Did BitMEX Maintenance and Manipulation Actually Cause a Bitcoin Pump?\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77813\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Related:\u00a0<a title=\"Did BitMEX Maintenance and Manipulation Actually Cause a Bitcoin Pump?\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/did-bitmex-maintenance-and-manipulation-actually-cause-a-bitcoin-pump\/\">Did BitMEX Maintenance and Manipulation Actually Cause a Bitcoin Pump?<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The latest move may appear reminiscent of last week\u2019s controversial <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/btc-spike-to-6800-bitmex-down-for-maintenance\/\">$5 billion buy rally<\/a> during the scheduled maintenance of BitMEX,\u00a0which was condemned by many as a <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/did-bitmex-maintenance-and-manipulation-actually-cause-a-bitcoin-pump\/\">manipulated<\/a> short squeeze \u2014 yet, it would appear that in the fast-moving world of crypto, no two pumps are one and the same.<\/p>\n<h2>Stop-Hunting Whales?<\/h2>\n<p>Bears would be expected to exercise caution after the mammoth BTC spike on Aug. 21, and yet Bitcoin shorts can be seen to remain exceptionally high relative to longs.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-79194 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Screen-Shot-2018-08-28-at-8.25.31-AM-1024x620.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"620\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Timed during periods of low volume; these would appear to provide excellent stop-hunting conditions for large contract holders \u2014 who may liquidate bears with relative ease.<\/p>\n<p>Given the rally\u2019s coinciding with the East Asian business open, cryptocurrency blogger <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Andy_Hoffman_CG\">Andy Hoffman<\/a> suggested the move was typical:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Anyone catch the MASSIVE bids that showed up on Bitfinex at $6,722 when the &quot;early Asians&quot; started the day with their usual low-volume <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/BTC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#BTC<\/a> price walkdown attempt?<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Andy Hoffman (#HODLBTC) (@Andy_Hoffman_CG) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Andy_Hoffman_CG\/status\/1034191349015166976?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 27, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>Coming Un-Tethered?<\/h2>\n<p>The jury is not out on whether the creation of Tether\u2019s USD-backed stablecoin can demonstrably <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/report-tether-printing-is-failing-to-pump-bitcoin-and-the-crypto-market\/\">pump the cryptocurrency market<\/a>, however, the company\u2019s recent efforts remain a possible causal factor for Aug. 27\u2019s bullish furor \u2014 with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omniexplorer.info\/address\/1NTMakcgVwQpMdGxRQnFKyb3G1FAJysSfz\">$210 million<\/a> USDT being \u2018printed\u2019 in the past six days.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_78627\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-78627\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-78627 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tether-printing-failing-pump-btc-social-300x158.jpg\" alt=\"Report: Tether Printing is Failing to Pump Bitcoin and the Crypto Market\" width=\"300\" height=\"158\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-78627\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Related:\u00a0<a title=\"Report: Tether Printing is Failing to Pump Bitcoin and the Crypto Market\" href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/report-tether-printing-is-failing-to-pump-bitcoin-and-the-crypto-market\/\">Report: Tether Printing is Failing to Pump Bitcoin and the Crypto Market<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the 24 hours leading up to the latest rally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.omniexplorer.info\/address\/1NTMakcgVwQpMdGxRQnFKyb3G1FAJysSfz\">$80,000,000<\/a> USDT were created \u2014 of which $50 million was dispatched to Bitfinex, and the remainder to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.omniexplorer.info\/asset\/31\">Tether's $3 billion Treasury<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While explanations are speculation at best, the latest rally would appear comparatively organic when compared to Aug. 21\u2019s rapid \u2018pump and dump\u2019 \u2014 when Bitcoin rebounded nearly instantly from its momentary $6900 peak.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, <a href=\"http:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\">Bitcoin<\/a> now appears to have found some semblance of support above the $6800-mark;
