Characterized by the fusion of IoT, AI, robotics, blockchain and various breakthrough technologies \u2014 the 4IR might be seen as a smorgasbord of Japan\u2019s strong-suits.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/data.worldbank.org\/share\/widget?indicators=NY.GDP.MKTP.KD.ZG&locations=JP\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nAs of March 2018, the East Asian nation has at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsa.go.jp\/news\/30\/singi\/20180410-3.pdf\">3.5 million<\/a> citizens trading cryptocurrencies \u2014 yet the Japanese appear particularly partial to Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsa.go.jp\/news\/30\/singi\/20180410-3.pdf\">data<\/a> aggregated by the Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA), Japan\u2019s BTC annual trade volume saw a 444,000% increase in the last three years \u2014 up from $22 million in 2014 to $97 billion at the close of 2017.<\/p>\n<h2>Corporate Japan: Bullish or Bearish?<\/h2>\n<p>While Japanese traders may have an insatiable appetite for both blockchain and cryptocurrency, corporate Japan has also gone big.<\/p>\n<p>This rhetoric seemed to set the tone for June 2018\u2019s Japan Blockchain Conference \u2014 one of the nation\u2019s largest events to date.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/coinview\/japan-blockchain-conference-2018-report-9791c46831ea\">Addressing<\/a> the conference, CEO of financial services giant SBI Holdings stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Blockchain related innovations will fuel the blast for the Japanese economy after the years of economic imbalance.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8211; Yoshitaka Kitao<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Spurred on by fresh regulation in the wake of the infamous Mt Gox hack, a string of Japanese giants have entered the decentralized economy. For one, Yamada Denki \u2014 one of Japan\u2019s largest retailers of electronics \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/south-korean-japanese-markets-beginning-accept-crypto-payments\/\">recently moved<\/a> to accept payments in Bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>While accepting cryptocurrency as payment may be a win for adoption, Japanese industry appears equally focused on innovation.
