Which blockchain platform focusing on advertising industry will follow suit?<\/p>\n<h2>The Digital Advertising Industry: Centralized, Opaque and Fraudulent<\/h2>\n<p>Digital advertising surpasses every form of advertising in the world, including print, television, and billboards. Despite its massive size, the industry is extremely centralized with few large middlemen maintaining controlling a significant portion of the market.<\/p>\n<p>Google and Facebook currently dominate the digital advertising ecosystem, controlling an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2017\/12\/20\/google-facebook-digital-ad-marketshare-growth-pivotal.html\">estimated<\/a>\u00a073% of all online ads. Data collected by the Interactive Advertising Bureau in 2017 shows that 75% of all online ad revenues are dominated by the top 10 companies. This makes it extremely difficult for organizations purchasing digital marketing to determine whether it is cost-effective.<\/p>\n<p>A marketer may spend over $2 million on digital marketing to achieve 1 million impressions, but it\u2019s commonplace for half of them to be generated by bots.<\/p>\n<p>This opaque, difficult to track ecosystem results in significant wastage. The Brave browser privately monitors user attention, rewarding consumers with Basic Attention Tokens. Publishers receive BATs for user attention, with revenue increasing or decreasing in tandem with efficiency. Advertisers pay both publishers and consumers with BAT, delivering a transparent, traceable, and cost-effective ecosystem for all parties \u2014 as long as consumers are using Brave.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metax.io\/\">MetaX\u2019s<\/a> adChain solution is another blockchain-based solution intending to disrupt the digital marketing ecosystem\u00a0without requiring the use of a specific browser. Instead, the adChain project wants to allow buyers to purchase individual impressions, which are encoded into a block and shared with chain participants.<\/p>\n<p>Publishers are able to verify impressions, adding them to the ledger to create an audit trail eliminating the risk of ad fraud. Buyers can see how many times an impression was seen, who saw it, and how budget capital was spent by publishers.<\/p>\n<p>MetaX recently released its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/metax-publication\/announcing-the-metax-product-roadmap-5ffea83cd931\">2018 roadmap<\/a> for the adChain project, with the adChain advertiser registry set for a late Q3 2018 launch. Alanna Gombert, the Global CRO of MetaX, highlighted the importance of combating ad with blockchain technology in an interview with CryptoSlate:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe are excited to bring transparency, decentralization, and token consensus models to digital advertising. Digital advertising is full of fraud (to the tune of 9 billion dollars) and arbitrageurs. The adserving technology is dated and monolithic. It does not bring in the voice of the people. adChain aims to fix all of that.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The MetaX solution may aim to eliminate digital advertising fraud altogether, but another project is focused on eliminating middlemen. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adex.network\/\">AdEx<\/a> platform is designed to destroy the digital advertising oligarchy by creating a smart contract executed marketplace in which advertisers are able to bid for advertising slots.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_59120\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59120\" style=\"width: 832px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-59120\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/adex1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"832\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/adex1.png 832w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/adex1-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/adex1-768x414.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 832px) 100vw, 832px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-59120\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The AdEx solution for publishers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>AdEx launched the beta of the AdEx <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-adex-blog\/the-adex-dapp-beta-rolled-out-55f558be179b\">dapp<\/a>\u00a0in early 2018 and more recently published a <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-adex-blog\/the-adex-roadmap-updated-6c4d2f6a204\">roadmap<\/a> that will see the AdEx protocol \u2014 including smart contracts, generalized advertising infrastructure, and a scaling solution \u2014 by September 2018.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/adex\/\">AdEx<\/a> CEO Ivo Georgiev outlined the upcoming goals of the AdEx platform in an interview with CryptoSlate, asserting that the project is \u201cgeneralizing\/standardizing trading advertising in a decentralized way with the aid of blockchain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Georgiev stated:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhat is coming soon is this protocol definition, and also we're looking into possibilities to also implement bidding for advertising over NFTs.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are many other blockchain-based digital advertising platforms, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/introduction-to-oyster-the-future-of-web-monetization\/\">Oyster Protocol<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/adhive\/\">AdHive<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bigbom-eco\/\">Bigbom<\/a> \u2013 all of which incorporate different approaches to the issues presented by the current market paradigm.
