TRON<\/a>, the tenth largest cryptocurrency by market cap<\/a>, is beginning its transition from the Ethereum<\/a> blockchain to a public blockchain produced by the TRON Foundation and a community of developers around the world.<\/p>\n

In a blog posted on Medium<\/a>, Justin Sun, CEO and founder of the TRON Foundation, lauded the release as a historic moment for the company\u2019s goal of decentralizing the internet. Sun wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, I announce with confidence that development for TRON Mainnet, Odyssey 2.0 is complete and all materials have been submitted to Github. From this day forth, the TRON community will be able to download and run TRON\u2019s official mainnet Odyssey 2.0 on the TRON Github<\/a> page.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course, TRON\u2019s emergence as one of the most popular blockchain platforms didn\u2019t occur without a little assistance.<\/p>\n

TRON acknowledged Ethereum\u2019s role in helping the company achieve its early fundraising acquisitions and initial platform proliferation.<\/p>\n

However, they cited Ethereum\u2019s shortcomings<\/a> as the reason for their pursuit of an independent blockchain. More specifically, Ethereum\u2019s slow adoption of modern blockchain standards and what TRON describes as \u201can authoritarian system dominated by the foundation and develop team\u201d initiated the move.<\/p>\n

However, developing an independent blockchain capable of achieving TRON\u2019s goals is a significant undertaking.<\/p>\n

A Community Approach<\/h2>\n

In his comments on the platform\u2019s release, Sun noted the extensive efforts of the TRON development community to create an entirely new platform in just three months.<\/p>\n

In less than a year, TRON\u2019s team expanded from fewer than 20 paid participants to a global collective of more than 200 people, and this growth is evidenced by the platform\u2019s rapid progress.<\/p>\n

Mr. Sun identifies several of the platforms noteworthy accomplishments in that time, including:<\/p>\n

  • 2,153 commits<\/li>\n
  • 547 merged forks<\/li>\n
  • 15 software iterations<\/li>\n
  • 102 new features<\/li>\n
  • 384 unit tests<\/li>\n
  • 461 function tests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In short, it\u2019s been a very busy several months for the TRON team, and the next several weeks will be full of further developments and advancements.<\/p>\n

    A Time for Testing<\/h2>\n

    Although it officially launched on May 31st, Odyssey 2.0 will remain in beta testing throughout June, and it will formally transition on June 25th. TRON is billing this date as the network\u2019s Independence Day. At this time, TRON token migration will be complete, and they will operate as an independent blockchain entity.<\/p>\n

    TRON promised additional regarding blockchain explorers, wallets, and infrastructure-related apps will be announced on June 5th.<\/p>\n

    Harkening Neil Armstrong\u2019s triumphant moon landing proclamation, Mr. Sun exclaimed:<\/p>\n

    \u201cOdyssey 2.0 launch is one small step for TRON, one giant leap for blockchain.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Interestingly, TRON\u2019s announcement did not have a positive impact on its digital currency\u2019s value. At the time of publication, TRON\u2019s value dropped 15% in the past week, and it\u2019s down slightly since the announcement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
