{"id":495536,"date":"2025-08-26T09:34:48","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T08:34:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=495536"},"modified":"2025-08-26T09:35:21","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T08:35:21","slug":"kraken-lobbies-sec-on-integrating-tokenization-into-financial-markets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/kraken-lobbies-sec-on-integrating-tokenization-into-financial-markets\/","title":{"rendered":"Kraken lobbies SEC to integrate tokenization into financial markets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/kraken\/\">Kraken<\/a> has opened a new round of dialogue with the US Securities and Exchange Commission\u2019s (SEC) Crypto Task Force, focusing on how tokenization could be integrated into regulated financial markets.<\/p>\n<p>An internal agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/files\/ctf-memo-payward-inc-kraken-securities-llc-wilmer-cutler-pickering-hale-dorr-llp-082525.pdf\">memo<\/a> confirmed that the exchange met with the task force on Aug. 25 to present ideas on how tokenized trading systems might function under existing US law.<\/p>\n<p>During the session, Kraken's presentation outlined the architecture of such a system, explained the lifecycle of various transaction types, and examined the legal obligations tied to securities regulations.<\/p>\n<p>The crypto exchange also pressed for clearer regulatory guidance, stressing that constructive oversight could encourage innovation while safeguarding investors.<\/p>\n<p>The engagement follows the exchange\u2019s recent <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/kraken-expands-xstocks-to-bnb-chain-enabling-global-access-to-tokenized-equities\/\">launch of \u201cxStocks,\u201d<\/a> a platform designed to issue tokenized versions of more than 50 US equities and exchange-traded funds.<\/p>\n<p>The assets have been launched on Solana and the Binance-backed BSC blockchain, but are currently limited to offshore clients.<\/p>\n<h2>Tokenization gains momentum<\/h2>\n<p>The timing of this meeting reflects wider <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/tokenized-assets-near-300-billion-as-wall-street-quietly-floods-on-chain\/\">industry interest in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Advocates argue that moving traditional instruments such as bonds or equities on-chain could expand access to investment opportunities and lower costs for market participants.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, that argument has recently <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/sec-crypto-task-force-head-warns-assets-remain-securities-regardless-of-tokenization\/\">found support from US regulators<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/fed-warns-banks-could-become-irrelevant-if-they-ignore-blockchain-adoption-now\/\">Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman<\/a> said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The speed and cost of wholesale payments, especially internationally, is a longstanding problem that tokenization could help to address. Banks of all sizes, including community banks, can benefit from efficiency gains that flow from asset tokenization.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, it is unsurprising that the RWA sector is rapidly expanding. <a href=\"https:\/\/app.rwa.xyz\/\">Data<\/a> from analytics firm RWA.xyz shows tokenized assets reached $26.5 billion in August, a month-on-month increase of more than 4%. Wallet addresses holding these instruments grew by 11% to about 367,000.<\/p>\n<p>Considering this level of growth, industry experts expect the sector to scale significantly.
