{"id":493977,"date":"2025-08-14T16:54:34","date_gmt":"2025-08-14T15:54:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=493977"},"modified":"2025-08-14T16:54:34","modified_gmt":"2025-08-14T15:54:34","slug":"bloomberg-faces-lawsuit-for-disclosing-justin-suns-tron-token-holdings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bloomberg-faces-lawsuit-for-disclosing-justin-suns-tron-token-holdings\/","title":{"rendered":"Bloomberg faces lawsuit for disclosing Justin Sun&#8217;s TRON token holdings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/tron\/\">Tron<\/a> founder <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/justin-sun\/\">Justin Sun<\/a> has filed a lawsuit against Bloomberg, accusing the media outlet of unlawfully disclosing his private financial information in its Billionaires Index profile.<\/p>\n<p>In an Aug. 11 court <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.ded.90290\/gov.uscourts.ded.90290.1.0.pdf\">filing<\/a>, the crypto billionaire alleged that Bloomberg intended to \u201crecklessly and improperly\u201d publish highly confidential and proprietary details about his crypto holdings.<\/p>\n<p>He argued that the disclosure would cause \u201csignificant and irreparable\u201d harm, both financially and personally, due to the sensitive nature of the data.<\/p>\n<p>Sun said he provided Bloomberg with some information about his crypto portfolio only for verification purposes and under the condition that it would not be published without his consent.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that Bloomberg\u2019s planned report went far beyond the standard data typically included in the Billionaires Index and directly contradicted assurances given to him.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Bloomberg's publication would provide everyone, including bad actors, with<br \/>\nvital information to identify his crypto wallets. This action, Sun argued, would constitute an invasion of his privacy and also subject him and his family &#8220;to a significant and imminent risk of theft, hacking, kidnapping, and bodily harm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sun's legal team added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Given his significant crypto holdings, once Plaintiff\u2019s wallet numbers are known, Plaintiff will become a considerable target for bad actors who can use the information to determine the methods to carry out an attack, which may include a variety of tools to steal, extort, and attack Plaintiff.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This case adds to Bloomberg\u2019s history of disputes with prominent crypto industry figures. In a separate matter, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/binance\/\">Binance<\/a> founder <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/changpeng-zhao\/\">Changpeng Zhao<\/a> previously <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/cz-threatens-to-sue-bloomberg-over-report-linking-binance-to-trump-backed-usd1-stablecoin\/\">threatened to sue the outlet,<\/a> alleging it published false and damaging reports about him and his company.<\/p>\n<h2>Bloomberg's response<\/h2>\n<p>In an Aug. 12 letter to Judge Maryellen Noreika, Bloomberg stated that it will challenge the lawsuit and the temporary restraining order (TRO) that Sun requested.<\/p>\n<p>The outlet argued the TRO was irrelevant because the article had already been published before it received a cease-and-desist letter from Sun\u2019s legal team. Bloomberg further claimed that blocking publication would infringe on its First Amendment rights.<\/p>\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/billionaires\/profiles\/h-e-justin-sun\/?embedded-checkout=true\">report<\/a>, Bloomberg estimated Sun\u2019s net worth to be $12.4 billion, with most of his wealth tied to digital assets.<\/p>\n<p>The traditional media outlet stated that Sun owned more than 60 billion TRX tokens, which equates to roughly 63% of the token's total supply.
