If completed, the integration of USDC into the extremely popular Alipay payment platform could be viable, unlocking over a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/1271130\/mobile-wallet-user-forecast-in-china\/\">billion<\/a> new users.<\/p>\n<p>The move aligns with Ant International\u2019s broader objective to bring regulated digital assets, including stablecoins, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and tokenized deposits, onto its platform. USDC, a widely used stablecoin, could play a pivotal role in this strategy.<\/p>\n<h2>US compliance<\/h2>\n<p>However, the partnership reportedly hinges on Circle\u2019s ability to meet US regulatory standards in the GENIUS Act.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Circle appears poised to comply with the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/us-senate-approves-landmark-genius-act-for-stablecoin-regulation\/\">GENIUS Act\u2019s regulations<\/a>, which could give the company a first-mover advantage among US stablecoin issuers aiming to expand globally.<\/p>\n<p>The GENIUS Act, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/donald-trump-urges-swift-genius-act-passage-to-dominate-digital-asset-space\/\">supported by US officials including President Donald Trump<\/a> and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, introduces robust compliance measures intended to safeguard users and enhance the stability of digital assets.<\/p>\n<p>If successful, the partnership with Ant Group could provide Circle with a rare opportunity to enter China\u2019s tightly regulated financial market. Despite the Chinese government\u2019s restrictions on crypto trading and mining, many users continue to engage with the digital asset space.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Chinese government\u2019s stance on US dollar-backed assets remains a concern. Chinese financial experts have raised alarms about the growing influence of stablecoins, particularly US dollar-backed ones, in global financial systems. This could prompt further regulatory actions from China to protect its financial sovereignty.<\/p>\n<h2>Challenging Tether's USDT<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, a partnership with Ant Group would bolster Circle\u2019s bid to challenge Tether\u2019s USDT. Tether holds the dominant market position with a capitalization nearing $160 billion.<\/p>\n<p>USDC, by comparison, has a market cap of around $62 billion. However, it is actively building <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/world-chain-and-circle-join-forces-to-strengthen-identity-driven-finance-with-native-usdc\/\">momentum<\/a> through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.circle.com\/pressroom\/circle-and-okx-partner-to-deepen-usdc-liquidity-worldwide\">partnerships<\/a> with major exchanges, including <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/circle-looks-to-binance-to-help-usdc-catch-up-with-tether-in-stablecoin-adoption\/\">Binance<\/a>\u00a0and most recently, OKX.<\/p>\n<p>Circle noted that demand for USDC continues to grow among businesses and individuals seeking reliable, internet-native money.
