Once when they receive block rewards and again when they sell it. It\u2019s time to stop this unfair tax treatment and ensure America is the world\u2019s <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bitcoin\/\">Bitcoin<\/a><strong> and Crypto Superpower.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposal revives earlier bipartisan efforts to exempt small gains on everyday transactions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matthew Pine, executive director of the Bitcoin Policy Institute,<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/matthew_pines\/status\/1939709951619842500\">asked supporters<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to email or call senators and request \u201ca narrowly tailored Bitcoin de minimis tax exemption.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Pine's suggested script, the current rules require users to compute capital gains on minor purchases, a record-keeping burden that &#8220;discourages fair compliance and everyday adoption.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Timing of taxation for block rewards<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/people\/dennis-porter\/\">Dennis Porter<\/a>, chief executive of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/satoshi-action-fund\/\">Satoshi Action Fund<\/a>,<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Dennis_Porter_\/status\/1939721345119703211\">focused<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> his outreach on mining and proof-of-stake earnings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He told callers to explain that those rewards \u201care taxed once as ordinary income when they\u2019re created, then again as capital gains when they\u2019re sold.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Porter\u2019s proposed fix would tax rewards only at disposition, aligning them with self-generated property such as farm produce.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Colin McLaren of the Solana Policy Institute<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/thecolinmclaren\/status\/1939718928655409289\">echoed the appeal<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, stating that Congress and the Senate Finance Committee \u201cneed to clarify key digital asset tax issues around staking\u201d and should incorporate Lummis\u2019s language to \u201cunlock the future of innovation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Lobbying coordination intensifies<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cody Carbone, CEO of the Digital Chamber lobbying group,<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CodyCarboneDC\/status\/1939730174418751891\">amplified the message<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a post.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He said that taxes on block and staking rewards should be applied at sale instead of creation, adding that legislation should treat these rewards as \u201ccreated property.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carbone\u2019s call added the Digital Chamber\u2019s membership to a coalition that now includes Bitcoin policy advocates, proof-of-stake supporters, and general crypto trade groups.
