Instead, zkLend will keep its DeFi Spring, recovery, and kSTRK portals online, allowing users to unstake assets or claim balances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also retained security outfit zeroShadow to trace any remaining stolen coins, pledging to route future recoveries to the user fund.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">zkLend plans to publish its refreshed, audited codebase as open-source \u201cin the coming weeks\u201d for any developer who wants to build on the framework. The team added that it will \u201cremain online and committed to the recovery of stolen funds through any means necessary,\u201d but will not restart its money-market operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The decision marks the end of zkLend\u2019s four-year run on <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/starknet-token\/\">Starknet<\/a> and formalizes the shift from rebuilding the protocol to compensating users through the recovery pool.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Exploit drained 3,300 ETH<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Feb.12, an attacker used a precision rounding flaw in zkLend\u2019s Starknet contracts to drain about 3,300 ETH,<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/zklend-hack-sees-9-5m-exploit-offers-hacker-10-bounty-for-return\/\">worth roughly $9.5 million at the time<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The exploiter bridged the assets to <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a> and routed them through the privacy tool Railgun.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">zkLend offered the exploiter a 10% bounty if 90% of the funds were returned by February 14, warning that it would pursue legal action if the deadline passed. The funds never came back, and the protocol halted withdrawals while it worked with security firm Cyvers, law enforcement agencies, and on-chain investigators.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The investigation produced an unexpected twist on April 1 when zkLend reported that the attacker lost 2,930 ETH to a<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/hacker-falls-victim-to-phishing-scam-after-exploiting-zklend-for-millions\/\">phishing site impersonating Tornado Cash<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain confirmed the loss, and the attacker sent an on-chain message admitting the mistake, stating he lost all the funds. He added: \u201cI\u2019m devastated and sorry.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The breach left users locked out of their deposits, and the protocol\u2019s reputation
