Stay vigilant, stay safe.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Phishing moves offline<\/h2>\n<p>The scam letters represent a rare form of phishing conducted via US postal mail rather than digital means, which is usually the case for <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/zachxbt-reveals-coinbase-users-lost-another-45m-in-a-week-to-ongoing-social-engineering-scams\/\">crypto-linked scams<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The correspondence impersonated IDX, a legitimate identity protection service Coinbase has used in the past, and attempts to trick recipients into responding with more information.<\/p>\n<p>The shift to physical mail highlights the real-world implications of the breach, which <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-under-fire-for-massive-data-breach-affecting-nearly-69461-users\/\">exposed sensitive data of 69,461 Coinbase users<\/a>, including names, home addresses, partial Social Security numbers, and identification images.<\/p>\n<p>While Coinbase has maintained that passwords and crypto funds remain safe, security experts warn that the breadth of the leaked information leaves users vulnerable to identity fraud, social engineering, and now\u2014offline impersonation scams.<\/p>\n<h2>Data breach<\/h2>\n<p>The original breach was linked to bribed customer support contractors working overseas. The compromised data has since been l<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/tayvano_\/status\/1924913719383068976\">everaged by cybercriminals<\/a> in phishing emails, fake login portals, and now physical mail.<\/p>\n<p>Coinbase has not yet issued a statement on the mail-based scam.
