The article also acknowledged Abbott's long-standing support for digital assets and highlighted his role in making Texas more crypto-friendly.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott's track record includes signing several digital asset-related bills and actively courting Bitcoin mining firms to operate in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>He has previously argued that the Bitcoin mining industry <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/texas-town-rockdales-mayor-credits-bitcoin-for-economic-turnaround\/\">brings economic benefits<\/a> and could help <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/insights\/bitcoin-mining-aids-in-texas-grid-stabilization-and-harnesses-wasted-renewable-energy-in-japan\/\">stabilize the state's power grid<\/a>. The proposed law recently cleared another hurdle and is now <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/texas-house-lawmakers-pass-bitcoin-reserve-bill-with-new-amendments-senate-to-vote-again\/\">returning to the Senate for final approval<\/a> of its amendments. If passed, it will be sent to the governor for his signature.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1704\" data-end=\"2020\">The bill authorizes the state comptroller to purchase Bitcoin using surplus General Revenue. These purchases would follow a reporting structure similar to that used for the state's gold holdings. However, actual acquisition would not begin until procurement rules are set and storage contracts are finalized.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2022\" data-end=\"2199\">Under the proposed law, only assets with a market cap exceeding $500 billion for two consecutive years would qualify for inclusion. Currently, only Bitcoin meets this criterion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2201\" data-end=\"2478\">If Texas moves forward, it would become one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/new-hampshire-approves-first-state-level-strategic-bitcoin-reserve-law\/\">few US states to hold Bitcoin<\/a> as a treasury asset.
