{"id":475749,"date":"2025-04-22T01:00:13","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T00:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/?p=475749"},"modified":"2025-04-22T07:35:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T06:35:55","slug":"coinbase-launches-asset-recovery-tool-for-lost-solana-tokens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coinbase-launches-asset-recovery-tool-for-lost-solana-tokens\/","title":{"rendered":"Coinbase launches asset recovery tool for lost Solana tokens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/companies\/coinbase\/\">Coinbase<\/a> has expanded its self-service asset recovery tool to include lost tokens on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/solana\/\">Solana<\/a> network, according to an April 21 <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/CoinbasePltfrm\/status\/1914323037081538813\">announcement<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The feature allows users to reclaim certain unsupported SPL tokens mistakenly sent to their Coinbase addresses without submitting a customer support ticket.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The company clarified that not all SPL tokens are eligible for recovery, and users are encouraged to verify asset eligibility before initiating the process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, Coinbase emphasized that recovered assets have not undergone the exchange\u2019s full listing review, and customers must exercise their judgment regarding asset authenticity and security.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Asset recovery capability<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new addition broadens Coinbase\u2019s asset recovery capabilities, <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinbase.com\/th\/blog\/coinbase-announces-new-asset-recovery-tool-for-erc-20-tokens\">initially introduced<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in December 2022 for ERC-20 tokens on the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/ethereum\/\">Ethereum<\/a> network. The original recovery tool enabled users to retrieve nearly 4,000 unsupported Ethereum-based assets that were accidentally sent to Coinbase accounts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Until the launch of this tool, mistakenly sent assets were typically not recoverable because Coinbase employees and support channels lacked access to the private keys required to reverse such transactions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In February 2024, Coinbase<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coinbase.com\/pt-br\/blog\/coinbase-announces-support-for-asset-recovery-on-bnb-smart-chain-and-polygon\">expanded the feature<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to tokens erroneously sent using <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/bnb\/\">BNB<\/a> Chain and <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/coins\/polygon\/\">Polygon<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If a user attempts to recover an ineligible asset or uses an unsupported network, the process will fail, and funds will remain inaccessible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Successful recoveries involving amounts greater than $100<\/span> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/help.coinbase.com\/en\/coinbase\/trading-and-funding\/sending-or-receiving-cryptocurrency\/recover-unsupported-crypto\">are subject to a 5% fee<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> applied to the portion above $100, in addition to standard network fees.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tackling a longstanding issue<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coinbase\u2019s expansion of the recovery service to include SPL tokens on Solana reflects a broader effort to address a longstanding challenge in crypto self-custody.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Historically, mistaken transactions involving unsupported tokens often resulted in permanent losses, creating frustration among users.
